Hi Guys,

OK, so I have a normal Wireless Access Point that is connected to my router downstairs. My problem is that my data on my router's account is being used, even though I am connecting to my WAN account that runs through my router.

So here are my questions:
1. When my PC is directly connected to my router (Acc 1) and I've have setup a Dial-Up PPPoe connection (Acc 2) on my PC. Is there data being used on my Acc 1?
2. When my PC is connected to my Wireless Access Point (Acc 2) which is connected to my router (Acc 1). Can there be data used on my Acc 1?

Thanks

P.S. Acc 1 is International and Acc 2 is Local

By default, when you dial a PPPoE connection on your PC, it will become the default Internet connection. So in a case like this, no data would be used on Acc 1.

You'll have to look at the routing table of your WiFi AP.
If you ask me, the default will be that your PC will be using Acc 2 in a setup like this.

You'll have to make sure that your WiFi AP is routing the LAN traffic via the Ethernet ports and the Internet traffic via the PPPoE connection, by adding static routes to your ADSL modem's LAN subnet. If you don't do this, then the WiFi AP would most likely try to route LAN traffic via the PPPoE connection.

You can always check which connection is being used, by simply going to http://www.whatsmyip.co.za/ddclient.php
Alternatively, you can do a trace route to like www.google.co.za, by running the following from within Command Prompt: tracert www.google.co.za

You'll notice that the 2nd-hop would be your ADSL modem if you're making use of the Acc 1, and that the 2nd-hop will be your Acc 2 if you're making use of Acc 2 <- just applicable to your current setup.

Thanks Pada,
I was actually right, lol. The problem is data is keep getting used on my Acc 1. How can I trace my account to the telephone that is calling the line?

Your ISP has to provide you with that kind of functionality.

I know both @lantic & Afriweb's client web interfaces provide you with the telephone numbers that's being used with your account.

Why do you want to do this? Do you think someone stole your credentials?

Here's a list of stuff that you should do to protect your ADSL account:
  1. make sure that all your WiFi AP's are using WPA2 security with a password that is at least 10 letters strong and it should not be something that you can find in a dictionary - thus mix it with numbers and random letters such as # !
  2. log in on all your routers and change their passwords
  3. disable the router's services on its WAN interface, so that people can't access your router's web interface from the Internet
  4. change all your ISP account's passwords and apply those changes on your routers as well

Sorry for the wrong reply, but was a little busy sorting out the problem. I've fixed it so hopefully it works now. Thanks guys for your help
