So our area (021, 551 xxxx, Sunset Beach, Cape Town) has been upgraded to VDSL in the last few days and it is now officially available. You can actually hear the dial tone is different when picking up the phone. BUT, ever since they upgraded to the new MSAN, I'm having severe issues with PPPoE authentication.
We have a Billion 7300 router which connects using its own DSL account. The router's ADSL mode is set to "PPPoE with Passthrough" so that I can dial my own personal DSL account on my PC. The router itself has no issues with authenticating, but ever since the upgrade I get that annoying Error 651 message on my PC when connecting. If I keep trying, after about 20 times, it will all of sudden just connect.
I tried using a WebAfrica trial account to check whether the problem is with Afrihost
I tried dialing both my proper account and trial account from my Mac.
I restarted the router several times.
I tried disabling the PPPoE Passthrough on the router, and re-enabling it (which appeared to fix the problem, but this morning, that trick didn't work anymore)
I have NOT yet tried using a different DSL modem yet, because I don't have another one on hand.
Has anyone else had troubles after being VDSL-enabled?
