I have a simple requirement.

I have 2 pcs on my network. One connects using PPPoE, and the other I want to use NAT (Router PPPoE on behalf of that PC).

Is this possible?

How? I have a "regular" Telkom POTS router and Gigabyte Switch.

Telkom POTS is USB or Ethernet ?
Anyways -
If it's USB, then forget it, use some kind of firewall to do it.
If it's Ethernet, then you can *COUGH* hack the POTS and install the pro software. The pro software can auto-connect with login and password, and then you can use the POTS's built in Nat.

Let me Know and I'll hunt for the url that explains the hack. Its on this site somewhere.

It's a Ethernet POTS. I also have a Wifi Broadband router, if that might help...

So are you saying that with the Pro software, I can have some pcs connect through the POTS using PPPoE dialup, and some PCs will be connected using NAT?

Nope - you connect the POTS to the router and the POTS looks after itself (Dialling in and stuff when an external request is received on the switch/router.) I got it to work with mine for about 2 months before I quit ADSL.

Um - I forgot - you must have the old Alcatel SpeedTouch Home for this to work.
I also cannot rember the settings to use to dial-in on our network, but here's the link if you've got an old Alcatel.

If it's not the Alcatel SpeedTouch Home, then check the configuration of the POTS you are using to see if it can dial in for you. If it can, then thats what you must configure it to do instead of using PPOE.

I don't know all the options of this, but all I have is an old PII with 32meg of ram, an ancient 1gig seagate drive, 2 NICs and smoothwall - totally headless, sits under my desk and is very quiet.

ADSL modem goes into the RED NIC, GREEN NIC has ethernet cable that connects to switch. All other PC's also hook into switch. Internal network of bog standard 192.168.x.x

Ironically, my ADSL modem is actually a router, but I couldn't get the damn thing configured to work, plus it doesn't have the power that Smoothwall has - it has NAT btw.

I can define dialups on the router allready, but it seems to be an either / or situation where you can either connect via PPPoE from all your PCs or NAT from all your PCs - not both. I have 1 PC that PPPoE and another that needs to connect using NAT and the router's dialup facility.

Don't know if this is possible.

Another option is to use the modem in PPoE mode from the one PC and set that PC up as the gateway, I'm assuming that you use XP. I have absolutely no clue if XP home can be a ICS system since I only work with XP Pro but if you have XP Pro installed, right click on your allready set up PPoE connection click on properties , go to the advanced tab and set Internet Connection Sharing to on. Windows will then ask you if it should change the IP to 192.168.0.1 - select yes and then go to your other PC, you can now either have your other PC on DHCP to automatically obtain the IP or you can just set it's Default Gateway and Default DNS Server as 192.168.0.1. You should then be able to access the internet from that PC when the other PC is connected to the internet.

AxisK

I've done this a 100 times, but for some reason now it works like a charm!

Actually the second pc I mention is my PDA, over a Wifi connection - now I can walk around the house and make VoiP calls :))
