Hi there,

Not sure how many experienced Mikrotik users there are out there, but I am hoping that someone in the know will have some answers for me. I'm bashing my head against a wall here... I have posted this question on the Mikrotik forums but as yet have had no response.

For a long time now, I've had a RouterBoard 112 + R52 on my roof connecting to my WISP. The PPPoE client dials out on the WLAN interface and everything has always worked just fine.

I have now decided to get an ADSL line in addition to my wireless link. I've therefore bought myself an RB500 which I want to dial both the Wireless PPPoE and the ADSL PPPoE. The ADSL bit isn't a problem, but I am not having any luck getting the PPPoE client on the RB500 to dial the WLAN interface on the RB112.

I thought that the way to do this would be to create an EOiP Tunnel between the two RouterBoards which I have done successfully. I can MAC Ping each end of the tunnel from the other. I then bridged the EOiP Tunnel and the WLAN interface on the RB112, and created the PPPoE client to dial out on the EOiP Tunnel interface on the RB500. No luck.

Firstly, is what I am trying to do actually possible? And if possible, what am I doing wrong?

Perhaps this is of some help, but the RB112 is running v2.9.23 and the RB500 v3.20.

I've heard a rumour that on v2.9.xx you were unable to bridge a client interface like a WLAN...? Any truth to that?

Also, my License (legit) tells me that it is no longer elligible for upgrade, but a few threads here on MyBB have suggested that I may still be able to upgrade to v3.xx?

Thanks in advance for any help at all.

you need to bridge you wlan and eoip interface on the wisp rb to be able to dial pppoe from the rb500

Hi Kloon,

Thanks for the response. Please forgive me if I am not understanding you correctly, as I am very new to this sorta thing...

However, *if* am understanding you correctly, I have already done what you suggested.

I then bridged the EOiP Tunnel and the WLAN interface on the RB112, and created the PPPoE client to dial out on the EOiP Tunnel interface on the RB500

Nope, I will use the Wifi purely for accessing my office which is on the same WAN.

Hmmm, that's not a bad suggestion at all! I'll give it a shot, thanks Kloon.

It probably won't work.
What you're doing is creating a bridge with a station mode wireless interface as one of the ports.
This will not work as you expect it.
The AP on the WISP's side will expect to see traffic coming from the MAC address of the wireless card, but since you've created a bridge, the PPPoE traffic will be coming from the MAC address of the RB532, and will ignore it.

The solution here, is to either try proxy-arp on the RB112's Wireless interface, or just dial from the RB112.
