Quick question:

Will PPPoE packets and requests pass over a router? I have a routed network which I'd like to implement PPPoE in a central location and supply access to outside of that network over routers. Will this work?

Thanks

No PPPoE doesnt use IP, it only carries IP. If you configure your routers to do bridging as well they may be able to forward the packets (havent tested it tho).

Bridging is layer2 (I think) so effectively I'll be turning my router into a glorified HUB. Unless I only allow pppoe protocol to bridge and the rest to route?

Correct

Most decent routers (e.g. Cisco), when configured for both routing & bridging, will route the protocols they've been configured for (e.g. IP) and bridge the rest ... so your normal IP will still be routed.

Well sadly not using Cisco, using linux with ebtables and layer7 analyst :)

But I'll play around, just wanted to know if its possible.

Thanks :)
