Pre paid Card

Hey Guys

So my parents have retired an have now been scammed twice where they believe their bank accounts will get frozen then go into a panic and graant the scammers access. I want to get them a pre paid card loaded with a few thousand rand so whenever these scammers phone them they just ingonre them knowing they have a back up carad if their bank account gets frozen. Any idea if these cards exists or which banks offer them ?

The question to ask is if your parents have been fooled twice now, is a prepaid card really going to help..?

Just get them a Bank zero account and set yourself as authoriser.

I have no idea but its worth a shot, issue is they are "old" but not that old so still independant. Anyone else have guilable parents and how do you help them with financial issues ?

It’s called a debit card…and it’s a terrible idea because that’s your money not the banks and when that gets stolen/scammed they have no priority to give it back.

Educate them, or take their phones away instead.

Maybe once they understand frozen accounts is less of an issue that your money being stolen they’ll stop falling for it.

I don't know, I have bene over it many times just trying something to limit the damage. Doens't anyone else here have parents that are slightly older, naise and stuborn its liek arguing with a todler.

As a bad speller myself, my inbuilt autocorrect has translated the last sentence as follows

Naise - nice?
Stuborn- stubborn
Liek - like
Todler- toddler

Yes, I do and they tried to scam my family who are gullible.
But the scammers are quite convincing to be fair.
This was off a bank account. Managed to convince them it was the bank calling and that fraud was detected on their account sending them into a panic.
The number ended with many zeros so it seemed legit to them.
They had ID number already and got as far as sending the OTP to reset password or something and requested it be read out.
But I think my folks never use their phones to check messages whilst on a call so they got cut off.
They then called me to report the fraud when I then told them it's a scam.

They're both in their 80s but are cynical AF now. One did fall for a scam once but now has me verify just about everything first.

I don't know, it how about disabling their internet banking features, or having them only have access to view and not transact? The only way they can transact would be to use their cards.
