Mtn BB......could you give us any insight to when pre paid data will be launched?????

MTN is offering all bearers on prepaid already.. CSD, HSCSD, GPRS, GPRS+ as well as EDGE.. They will probably also give you 3G as soon as they are ready..

They charge per byte, at a rate of 2 bucks a meg.. If you want to use a lot of data you can load a data bundle using 555 and reduce the cost per megabyte to 1.25 per meg on the biggest option..

Go Baserk!

I think Caspa means pre paid data vouchers or something, i.e. you buy bundles up front on pre-paid.
I'd really like to see this. Whatever network launches this first will have my immediate attention!
And don't forget carry-over of unused data!!!

Thank you ajax,, i ment pre paid data 'VOUCHERS. '

But with MTN you can load Rand value on your account, which never expires and when needed you can purchase (or convert) to data credit by dialing 555.. Isn't that easier than keeping a voucher around in case you want to load data credit?

We are talking about data vouchers where the price per MB is LOWER than R2 per MB, basically like the bundles, except it is on pre-paid.

Exactly!!!....... Mtn BB are you out there!!

Hi

Firstly, this is my first post! Great board.

Just wondering from what was said above, are you saying that you can covert your talk time, which can be used for anything, to data only money, and then get it cheaper?

Hi Thelma

Just for interest's sake, how long were you lurking around this forum as a guest before joining? Wish all the guests would join and share their experiences/knowledge. Welcome!

What we are talking about is something that has not been released (yet). We want to put (positive) pressure on the cell networks to make pre-paid data vouchers available so that pre-paid users can also enjoy (some) of the benefits of bundled data prices!

In my opinion it would be to the benefit of the consumer and the network providing it. Think of it this way, if you can buy 1GByte of data upfront that will last you 180 days at say R600, would you go for it? I would most certainly!
From the network's point of view, this generates cash flow for them and at least a degree of customer loyalty in that the customer won't "migrate" to the competitor before the data allocation is used up.

Thanks for the welcome. Been browsing now and again for a while now :D

Thanks for the explanation, just wondered because someone said to dial 555 and u can convert your talk time to data money, well, that is what i understood, hehe.

Thanks again
Cheers

There is no pre-paid bundle as yet. We have taken note of requirements and do have
plans for developments in future but unfortunately I cannot divulge details until the products are launched or at least until the Service Providers are notified.

Almost 2 months.... Any news on when pre-paid data bundles that reduce the per meg rate will become reality?
