KEANE AND TORRES START AT IBROX

Robbie Keane and Fernando Torres will play together for the first time after being named in the starting XI to face Rangers at Ibrox this afternoon in a game you can only watch here on Liverpoolfc.tv.
Steven Gerrard will skipper a strong side in the 3pm kick off.

The Liverpool team in full is: Cavalieri, Dossena, Arbeloa, Skrtel, Carragher, Plessis, Gerrard, Benayoun, Kuyt, Keane, Torres. Subs: Reina, Hyypia, Agger, Alonso, Pennant, Insua, Darby, Spearing, Nemeth, Ngog.

Emirates Cup: Madrid Edge Hamburg In Opener​

It was a lively affair in London in which both sides had their chances, but the Spanish champions' precision in front of goal proved the difference in the end.

They took the lead midway through the first half through Ruud van Nistelrooy, and then weathered a brief storm from the Germans to make it into half time with their lead in tact.

However, shortly after the break, freshly introduced substitute Mohamed Zidan drew things level with a fabulous strike.

The game then went back and forth for much of the remainder of the half, with Madrid making changes throughout and it was the final two substitutes who combined to produce the winner, with Juanmi Callejon crossing for Parejo to head home from point blank range.

Hamburg started the game full of energy, but it was Madrid who looked the more composed in possession. Despite being a yard short of pace compared to their opponents - who are further along in their pre-season - Madrid defended fairly comfortably throughout the opening minutes and in fact had the first opportunity of the game, with Raul doing well to put van Nistelrooy through on goal, but he could not lift his effort over the onrushing keeper.

However, his next opportunity was unmissable, as Arjen Robben ran down the left, floating a ball across the area for Guti on the right, whose attempted through ball was deflected and Nigel de Jong failed to deal with it, allowing Michel Salgado to barge through and drill a ball across the face of goal for van Nistelrooy to tap into an open goal.

Guerrero and Ivica Olic missed a number of chances between them for Hamburg, with the former heading wide from point blank range and also having an effort deflected wide of goal by Gabriel Heinze after a dreadful back pass from Michel Salgado.

After the break, one of former Tottenham Hotspur boss Martin Jol's three changes paid immediate dividends, as a neat passing move around the Madrid area fell at the feet of Mohamed Zidan, who curled a beautiful shot into the top corner, in off the bar as a statuesque Madrid defence and goalkeeper looked on.

Madrid had a chance straight after the goal to put themselves back in the lead, as an adventurous Michel Salgado again found himself in the opposition area and his left-footed strike was deflected wide.

Though the likes of Mahamadou Diarra and Wesley Sneijder were looking sharp for the Spanish champions, their lack of fitness at the back in particular almost cost them as Hamburg had yet more chances to complete the comeback and take the lead.

However, despite having far more chances than their opponents, HSV could not keep the ball and Madrid continued to have control of the game that paid dividends late on. A short Robinho cameo wowed the Emirates crowd but it was two Castilla starlets who combined to produce the winning goal, with Callejon's run and cross down the right hand side superb and Parejo's header unstoppable.

Madrid gained five points for win (three and one for each goal), while Hamburg gained a solitary point for their goal scored.

Arsenal now play host to Juventus, with the Italian giants set to face Hamburg tomorrow and Madrid come up against Arsenal to conclude the tournament.

Liverpool beat Glasgow Rangers 4-0 to send out a message to their title rivals ahead of the new Premier League campaign. It was a very impressive result considering the amount of reserve team players that were on the field for Liverpool.



Rafael Benitez decided to start the match with his new strike partnership of Fernando Torres and Robbie Keane to give the fans a glimpse of the attacking power that the team now possess. It was Torres who opened the scoring picking up where he left off last season with a tap in after a powerful long distance shot from French youngster Damien Plessis was parried by the Rangers keeper.



Keane nearly opened his Liverpool account with a ferocious drive but this time the keeper parried the ball to one of his defenders.

Rangers almost leveled things when Nacho Navo should have scored only for Liverpool's new Italian defender Dossena to make an unbelievable goal line clearance.

In the second half both teams made changes but it was Liverpool who looked the stronger team after the break. David Ngog doubled Liverpool's lead in the 56th after an amazing run when he picked up the ball midway in the Rangers half, turning his marker inside out(and inside again!) before unleashing a menacing low drive that left the Rangers keeper Helpless.



Two minutes later it was 3-0, Yossi Benayoun tapping in at the far post after Kristian Nemeth's effort was palmed away. Xabi Alonso slotted in a penalty to round off an impressive win for Rafael Benitez's men.



"We showed from the start that we wanted to impress and win against a good team.

"Both teams worked hard in the first half but we had good possession and played with a high tempo. We scored one and, though we had some problems towards the end, we controlled the first half.

"The second half was more open, so it was easier for us to move the ball and pass it." said Benitez.

"Robbie has settled in well," Benitez went on. "He is a clever player and has been working very hard. He is happy here and hopefully we will see a lot of good movement and goals from him.

"We have some leaders in the team and little by little each one will have his own position."

The Railway Cup;

* Where: Moscow, Russia
* Teams: AC Milan, Sevilla, Chelsea and Lokomotiv Moscow
* Info: The Russian Railway cup is organized by the countries Railway organisation. It will be held for the 2nd time, last year PSV won the title after beating Milan and Real Madrid. This year they invited some other great teams. Every win can bring a million Euro's to a total of 3 million when winning this friendly Tournament. Due to the time difference matches will be played today and sunday during the afternoon and early evening CET. The winners of today will be facing eachother in Sundays fina, the losers will battle for the 3rd place.

Rotterdam Tournament 2008;

* Where: Rotterdam, Netherlands
* Teams: Celtic, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund and Feyenoord
* Info: The Rotterdam Tournament this year will be an event between old Uefa Cup oponents of Feyenoord during their cup Finals they won. An interesting tournament both for fans and the players. This tournament will be played today and Sunday. The matches are known for both days, and there's not much to win. Its just a great pre-season event in a great atmosphere.

* Where: London, England
* Teams: Juventus, Real Madrid, Hamburger SV and Arsenal
* Info: The Emirates cup is a great cup held this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The matches for both days are known already, and it will be great to watch these 4 teams playing during their pre-season. Good teams, nice stadium and a great atmosphere. A lovely tournament for all fans!

Juventus 0 Hamburg 3 ​

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri will have plenty to ponder after his side slumped to defeat against Hamburg at the Emirates Cup on Sunday.

Jose Paolo Guerrero took advantage of a glaring mistake by the Bianconeri defence to fire his side into the lead in the 19th minute before a late Ivica Olic double compounded Juve's woes.

Ranieri was delighted with his side's defensive display in their 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday but they were all at sea against a side which finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season.

Antonio Chimenti, handed a rare start in the Juve goal, was kept busy right from the start and had to dive smartly to gather Jerome Boateng's fierce 20-yard effort after five minutes.

Hamburg were camped in the Juve half and should have taken a deserved lead in the 16th minute as Piotr Trochowski skipped his way through the Juve defence before unleashing a fierce shot which just scraped the top of the crossbar.

Seconds later Juve had their first sight of goal as Mauro Camoranesi lofted a decent cross into the area but it was just too high for Amauri and although the Brazilian got his head to the ball he couldn't direct it towards goal.

The German side took the lead after 19 minutes with a goal that neither Nicola Legrottaglie nor Chimenti will want to see again.

Guerrero, who had looked a constant threat during Saturday's defeat to Real Madrid, raced onto a long ball from the halfway line which Legrottaglie should have easily ushered away from danger, and calmly slotted it past a static-looking Chimenti into the bottom left corner.

Hamburg went close to doubling their lead 10 minutes later as Juve gave a lesson in how not to defend.

A mix-up in the Italian side's penalty area saw them make a hash of what should have been an easy clearance from a Hamburg corner and allowed Mohamed Zidan to snatch the ball before battling his way through to the edge of the six-yard box.

But the Egypt striker, who scored against Madrid in a 2-1 defeat, missed the opportunity to add to his tally.

Juve almost shot themselves in the foot again on the stroke of half-time as they could have conceded a penalty when Dario Knezevic felled Olic yards from goal, but the referee waved play on.

There was further misery for the Serie A giants 10 minutes after the restart as Knezevic had to be stretchered off following a last-ditch tackle on Guerrero which almost certainly prevented his side from going further behind.

They again came close to doing so as another mistake by their lethargic looking defence saw Olic race clear but, one-on-one with Chimenti, his effort flashed wide of the far post.

Juve had one of their rare opportunities seconds later as Frank Rost was finally tested when the Hamburg keeper saved Amauri's header at full stretch.

The Bianconeri came close to equalising in the 73rd minute as Vincenzo Iaquinta, who had only been on the pitch two minutes, raced clear.

A tremendous save from Rost - who was clattered by the Juve striker for his pains - saw the ball rebound to Amauri.

The Brazilian's follow-up shot threatened to level the scores but it was scrambled away by the Hamburg defence inches away from the line.

Juve did have the ball in the back of the net 10 minutes from time but Camoranesi's effort was ruled out for offside.

Hamburg sealed the victory in the dying seconds, as Olic raced into the penalty area before slotting the ball into the far corner.

And Olic added his second within a minute as he got the ball almost straight from the restart and raced into the penalty area before blasting the ball high into the top of the net from a tight angle.

Sevilla steamroll Lokomotiv​

Spanish first division side Sevilla won the pre-season Railway Cup tournament in Moscow on Sunday, beating hosts Lokomotiv Moscow 3-0 in the final.

Sevilla took the lead four minutes into the match when midfielder Christian Ndri Romaric nodded home from a corner. The Spaniards dominated play, translating possession into a second goal when forward Arouna Kone headed in a Diego Capel cross in the 23rd minute.

The hosts had a great chance to reduce the deficit before the break, but Seville keeper Javi Varas saved a penalty after David Mujiri had been fouled in the box.

After the break Sevilla stifled Lokomotiv's attacking efforts, before Ernesto Chevanton netted their final goal with eight minutes remaining to secure a well-deserved win.

Chelsea thrash Milan in Moscow​

Nicolas Anelka scored four times as Chelsea tore apart a weakened Milan team in their pre-season friendly. Without ***a or Ronaldinho, the Italians fell behind to Frank Lampard's second minute opener, and were never in the game thereafter as the Blues emphatically settled the third-place play-off in the Railways Cup.

Milan's miserable display was typified by some comically inept goalkeeping from Zeljko Kalac, whose air-kick allowed Anelka in to roll home his second goal. The Rossoneri were missing a recognised striker - they also deployed the defensive quartet of Mathieu Flamini, Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo and Massimo Ambrosini - and were powerless in the face the dominant Londoners.

Michael Ballack made his first appearance of the pre-season in a strong Blues line-up, following his late return to the squad after Euro 2008 duty with Germany. But it was his central midfield partner Lampard who put Luiz Felipe Scolari's side ahead in the second minute when his curling free-kick was missed by everyone and the ball flew in through Kalac's legs.

It was two in the eighth minute when Anelka latched on to a poor defensive header to fire home low from the edge of the area. The Frenchman then added a third 10 minutes later as Kalac's day went from bad to worse. Shaun Wright-Phillips very nearly headed a fourth soon afterwards as Chelsea sought to make amends for their shoot-out defeat to Lokomotiv Moscow two days ago.

Anelka completed his hat-trick six minutes after the restart when Deco played in Florent Malouda down the left and the winger's cross found his countryman, who headed accurately into the corner of the net.

Remarkably, it became four for Anelka and five for Chelsea in the 58th minute when another flowing move down the left ended with Malouda centring once more for the former Bolton striker to volley home.

The Barclays Premier League runners-up took their foot off the gas in the last quarter but still dominated and the lively Malouda fired narrowly over from long range

Wenger Pines For Mourinho​

The pre-season competition sees Arsenal join Mourinho’s side Inter Milan, along with hosts Ajax and Sevilla, face-off in two knock-out games, but the draw ensures Wenger and his Portuguese counterpart’s team will avoid each other.

Wenger and Mourinho enjoyed a fractious relationship during the latter’s reign as Chelsea manager, with a number of high-profile disputes seeing Mourinho charged by the Football Association for inappropriate comments.

However, Wenger insists the rivalry was nothing more than professional chivalry, a sentiment echoed by Mourinho.

“I can understand your question because we had some battles,” Wenger said. “Unfortunately, Chelsea won many times.

“But I would have loved to play against Inter because they are a great side and it’s always interesting before the season to starts to measure against the top teams in other countries.

“It gives you a little bit of a view of how well you can do in Europe if you qualify and that’s why it’s very interesting to play different teams.”

Mourinho agreed, saying: “Now that we are in different countries, we agree more times. I agree totally.

“I chose that for my pre-season we would play against Bayern Munich; now we have two different teams with the Spanish and the Dutch.

“After that, we go to Portugal and I think it is very, very important to play against different philosophies, different football, different tactics… make difficult things for ourselves.

“I don’t like friendly matches or pre-season to win 10-0. I like games against good teams.”
