.... Happy new year fellow geeks....

A Cuz of mines is looking for a desktop computer for home.. she is a girl gamer.... and her dad usually used to buy her pc's from Incredible or Makro, brands like Fujitsu or Packard Bell etc.. . They've preferred the Brick and mortar stores. . As they like the warranty and the fact that the system is ready to roll.. no real setup needed....

Basically it's upgrade time now.. after 3/4 years and she wants something that will last equally long she had a Q6600 and a pretty decent midrange graphics card.... I suggested going for a custom built machine.. which I can easily do.. but they prefer going for a prebuilt branded pc.. with a good warranty. She hasn't done any hardware upgrades to her old machine and I doubt she will in the new one..

She does use the PC a helluva lot.. both for gaming... and school work.. I dunno how demanding the likes of Harry potter and Lego etc are.. but she has a younger brother who I'm sure in a couple of years is going to start with COD.. and Crysis. .:D

I suggested they look for something with at least an i7 3770 at least 8GB RAM and a nvidia GT 650 graphics card. And decent hard drive space 1TB+
As you can imagine... the Brick and Mortar stores have nothing with that kind of hardware.. and the best they could find was an i5 Fujitsu with not so appealing specs...

I gave them a breakdown of a decent budget gaming pc from the Evetch website.... but the case was pretty drab and the lack of a "Trusted" Brand on the box is somewhat of an issue...

Is there anywhere you guys suggest I look... or should I be the bearer of bad news and tell them the desktop is dead... Buy a Mac.. or a Laptop...
I was thinking of suggesting alienware.. but I am quite certain the price is probably not very appealing. ..

Budget is around R6500 but it is a little stretchable.....

If the dealers out there want to send me a quote to.. I would be greatful...

The budget will have to be lifted a little higher, possibly to around R7500 because Evetech does price things a bit higher than most other vendors. Otherwise, use an online retailer like Rebeltech and get them to build it for you.

He just said that Evetech doesn't appeal to them and they don't want to use online stores... They want brick-and-mortar stores with "reputable" brands...

Do none of the online shops assemble computer for you and provide a warranty?

Where is the OP/girl located?

Even if the OP found an online store that could assemble a machine to his specs and give them a warranty, they don't want it. They want a brand name PC from somewhere like Makro, Game, Incredible Connection.

Well then they must go buy something from one of those shops and be happy with what they get which will probably be a G or Celeron series CPU for R6500 from the likes of Dell, HP, Lenovo etc.

Does that R6500 include the Windows license?

If it should, then you won't be able to get a "gaming" class PC, unless you're talking about playing 5+ year old games.

Exactly. Total waste of money.

Thanks for the responses.....
And I can certainly agree with you guys the "branded" units being a waste of good money...

He does indeed have an OS (Groupon ;) ) so that should save him some $$$
I'm working on a few things between prophecy shop... Rebeltech, Sybaritic, Nivo, and Esquire... takealot is on the list too... hopefully I can get this sorted.... soon...

Any suggestions in terms of hardware would be appreciated...

Intel i7 3770
8GB Kingston Value Ram (2X4GB)
CPU Compatible Foxconn or similar Motherboard with USB 3.0...
GT 640 Graphics card....
1TB HDD @ 7200rpm SATA2
Niceissh looking case.
400W PSU. ..
DVD/CD Drive

Advice?..

How about a pre-built Lenovo system?

Rectron & Pinnacle are the suppliers I usually deal with for these..... Just a thought. Use it,... Don't use it...

Change to an i5 which is plenty for gaming and save about R1k. Get a decent (corsair, antec, xfx) PSU of 450W. There's a decent ASRock Z77 extreme 4 MB for about R1.5k

Do you have prices and specs?

Not right now... They're closed till next week if I have the dates right
Although, they are a bit pricey: At Rectron - LENOVO EDGE 91T SGTP1SA DT is R6599 Excl VAT... i5, onboard GPU & 4Gb Ram.
3 Year carry in warrantee
