I'm getting married at the end of the year and my soon to be wife and I agreed on signing a prenuptial agreement. A lawyer quoted me R3000 to setup the contract and so a colleague of mine offered I take his and his wife's agreement that their lawyer setup and just retype it and fill in our names instead.

Would my fiance and I just signed two copies of the agreement with a witness, each keep our copy of the agreement in a safe place and that's it? Or is there something else I need to do to make the agreement legal and binding?

Needs to notarised filed and stamped and blahblahblah

We used http://bbmlaw.co.za/ in Rosebank when we got married.
Think it was about 1900 just over a year ago.

Was a very simple process and glad that we got them to do it.

Sounds about right to me assuming you actually have some assets etc.

Had mine done for R1600 ... Lawyer wasn't overly bright though.

www.saanc.com - was R900 2 years ago, they even spent more than an hour with us to customize the contract. I see it is now R850.

You can notarise it at the Police station. I would not have your wife to be go there in her wedding dress though(!) Just take two witnesses along, plus your ID books.

You can get the wording here (or at least a guide) http://www.rocketlawyer.com/form/prenuptial-agreement.rl

I am sure that a marriage contract must be signed prior to you actually getting married. IE you can sign it weeks in advance. Doesn't need to be on the day.

Yes needs to be signed prior to marriage and you need to inform the presiding marriage officer that you have a contract.

R3k is a bit much R1300 to R2000 is par. Just get it done- for me I went without accrual as well.

3 Grand is way too much. Shop around you should be able to get it for a grand.
