I'm in Claremont Cape Town and went to two different shops, both prepaid systems were down. Same story when I try to buy online from home.

Called the municipality, spoke to someone there who said they weren't aware of a problem. Call one of the shops and get told "No, the municipality has been informed."

Anyone else got any info? Hope this gets sorted out tonight because I've only got 10 units of electricity left...

Nevermind, it's finally back up.

I just got an email that says PayCity is no longer going to accept SMS purchases.

Is there another online method of buying prepaid electricity?

EasyPay, or if you're with Standard Bank or FNB (maybe other banks as well) do it from your IB

If you with FNB use their USSD banking menu to buy electricity. You need to sign up for it on the fnb website.

They've been having issues lately and I contacted them the other day. They said they are working on their system and that it would be up and running today. Earlier, I got an email that said they can no longer do prepaid electricity. So I went over powertime.co.za They also have an Android app. Going to try it just now.

Powertime is great. I've been using them for 2 years now. They even provide you with usage reports.

Okay, got it working. Loaded credit into the paywallet/paygenius thing on their website (from credit card), then used the Android app to buy and it worked.

Having endless issues trying to buy now. I've updated my credit card details but it's not taking. Tried the app and the website. How do you buy from them?

Asked and answered :D

Glad you got it working.

About to try powertime now myself.

Anyone know which of all these services has the lowest service charges?

Lol i'm not surprised.

This the the prepaid electricity "server" for Makana/Gtown!!

Installed by some "tender" company which we all know is their comrades.

Wish the online service was more reliable. I'm often stuck unable to buy online through FNB because "provider is down". Surely it cannot be so hard to keep this service running.

Same here. I know I should be prepared and have enough units left, but it has happened that get home, and there's 5 units, and not a single place that is actually online

I'm forced to use prepaid. I have no other option. Post paid is not an option. Downtime for more than a few minutes, unless there are prior warning, is not acceptable. I want to be able to purchase whenever I want to.

I'm going on 3 units left, geyser is off so hopefully will have enough until it comes back online.
