Prepaid Electricity

It's not meter rental. It's service charge, network charge and demand side management levy.
On my bill it's R416 per month. You don't pay that with prepaid.

Network charge(Rental meters) & service charge(meter reading folks) if not mistaken did read it somewhere on prepaid you actually don't pay service charge nor network charge and I did ask the Councillors and they assured me that those fees aren't applicable.

Those are also the fees I want to get rid of - but want to know 100% for sure.

Have you guys converted yourself?

I have converted but my post paid account isn't closed yet. Takes a while. But there are none of those charges with prepaid

Do they organise the closing of the post paid?

Also, can one buy from anywhere? I noticed this in his mail to me, which seems to indicate I can't do FNB

The tenant can purchase tokens via EFT, Credit Card online, Cash Deposit at any ABSA bank or via EasyPay facilities ( select stores). STss also supplies a 24 hour – 7 day a week customer call centre which supplies emergency tokens for residents who are about to run out of KwH’s and are unable to make a payment. The tokens are charged at the Body Corporate rate plus a 10% service charge.

Oh - only R799.00, but that could be subsidized

And those cost .... I see FNB only gives the Rand value and not kwh that you'd purchase.

My last bill was 421kwh at 0.94c - so less than R400.00, but with the other crap it's R861.00 ex VAT

They do the docs for the closing but they also recommend you go into a revenue centre yourself to hurry the process up. Will do that next week. Your meter thing there looks like a sub meter, i.e. city power topups won't work. My meter is a city power recognised one, I buy from fnb. The units you get are calculated by city power at purchase time, based on the ibt telescoping tariffs. Fnb don't know how many you'll get until they buy them on your behalf

I just found their site http://stss.co.za/#!/pageHome and it's for complexes only, a Trust account is opened in the complex name and the Trustees determine the price of the power. It will be expensive, but I guess the R4k per year I save on charges is worth it

You definitely want to make sure you're getting individual metering from the city or Eskom, and not paying the bulk rate normally charged to sectional title. If all they're doing is shifting the bulk rate from post-paid to pre-paid so the body corporate can avoid collection hassles, then it doesn't seem worthwhile. Based on my experience with sectional title I'd also be very wary of something that allows the trustees to control the electricity price.

I haven't converted as yet but on the list for conversation whenever that will take place. They want to upgrade everyone to smart Meters but I have opted for for the free conversation to prepaid.

I am sick and tired of getting charged network charge and service charge amounting to around R400 easy, that saving can be put towards the electricity and with utility taxes going up every year at this rate will pay R3000 come next year. I remember paying R700 in 2005/6 now the charges are getting out of hand.
