Prepaid phones from a local network

Seems like nobody wants to sell me a prepaid phone anymore. Went to Vodashop, MTN and Telkom Mobile looking to buy a new iPhone for a friend... All wanted me to sign a contract instead:wtf:

I've got a contract and change phones often (+- 6 months) so it would be nice to buy prepaid instead of paying for four contracts
