Prepaid SIM requires data activation?

Hi, I moved my wife's SIM from an HTC to an iPhone 4s. She never used data on the HTC and now has a loaded 350mb data bundle. However, the iPhone does not connect to data, although voice works fine. My phone connects to MTN LTE so data coverage is very good.

Just wondering if I need to enable data on her SIM?

BTW, have verified the settings. Same as my 5s. Using mymtn.

You should give them a call and ask for the data to be loaded under services. It does happen sometimes that the data under services gets removed. Very easy. Just call 173 and ask them to got to the add services on their side and add the data services. If you get a savvy consultant its easy if they are not so savvy it might be a bit more difficult.

Yes they need to load a couple of things like packet data, gprs, data wallet and stuff like that. I think the consultant only loaded the packet data hence you will see the 3G symbol now and not before but you won't be able to connect until all is loaded.

Happened to a friend of mine. Trust me that is the problem. The data services are not loaded properly. Insist on it and you will come right even if you have to phone like 4 times.

They loaded only the packet data on my friends number and the 3G symbol showed but not all the stuff were loaded and he still could not connect.

is there a way to check if a brand new MNT data SIM in a modem is working?

i added the data via an old BB and got a message confirming 300meg had been loaded (it's a modem dedicated to switching lights on an off so don't need much data - it will only expire).

tks

Exactly right - was at a MTN technical centre now and they confirmed this is the issue. They logged a call on my behalf for an engineer to rectify.

Data fixed, but now she can't send SMS :crying: She can receive SMS, centre number is correct for pre-paid, but cannot send at all as it comes back with an error.

Driving me nuts..

ok I know this sounds silly buy have you tried to put the sim into another phone and try sending a sms. This will help to see if its a MTN problem or phone setting thats not setup right.

Eventually found out via 173 SMS was blocked. Still could make phone calls though. They unblocked it and now everything works, even iMessage
