Prescription Charge

Not sure exactly where to post this but I need some input from members who have experience with medical professionals.
A friend, presently in America, has contacted me because she needs a repeat prescription from her endocrinologist for her medication.
The charge is R400 which seems excessive but I will pay it in the morning and collect the script.
I would appreciate some opinions.
 
I have to visit my GP every 6 months to get repeat for my BP meds. He charges R650. No other option with his practice to get this prescription so R400 sounds ok. He would not give prescription in my absence though - not even to my wife, who is main member.

Change your doc. I get one script with six repeats on it.

It's not a matter of merely writing up a script, your doctor may have to check your blood results or decide whether or not you should continue these meds at that dose. There is medical liability to prescribing. If something goes wrong, you could sue. He'd better have justification why it's still medically rational for those meds to continue. Hence there is a charge. Some of that goes to pay his MPS subscription.

However, as your friend is in the States, that Rx won't be valid there. Your friend will need to visit a board certified endocrinologist or family physician there and get a local prescription to get meds there.

Ask her to ask the doctor to make it a Repeat x 6 Prescription.

No charges except the once off that way.

Yeah I'd just ask for Repeat in case I need it in future...to avoid those extra charges in case of future needs.

My Doctor gives me a S5 Prescription (Opiates) for 6 months repeated. I pay him cash (R350) per visit. A visit Includes B-Complex/B-12 injections and Alprazolam+Stilpane from his private dispensary stock.

He also gave me Adderall for using during exam study time for basically cost price. DM me if you want his location/info.

That's fine. But you and the other guy are two different people with two different sets of conditions etc.

Hence there is a reason why a doctor may prescribe 1/12 instead of 6/12 worth of meds.

Quite so.

Needs are different so yeah it's understandable. I use the Tramadol/Xanax to help me get gym gains quicker (less muscle pain/fatigue/ less loss of confidence/ more stamina/ more endurance).

Gotta take it easy though. Balance is key.

How will you get the meds to the US?
They are apparently very strict with cross boarder prescription drug shipments, being caught can get you booted out of the country if she isn't a citizen.

Holy sherbert. Popping painkillers at the gym, to push through the pain barrier???

And there I thought I was “pushing it” when my heart rate goes over 170bpm on the treadmill lol. Here I’m Mr Cautious apparently.

Gotta do what we gotta do to get tough quick. I know the risks and try and mitigate it as much as I can. No 'abuse' or recreational use for me recently.

Maybe the real question is why do you have to get tough quick? Are you training for a movie appearance?

I do see the guys from VIP protection services and bouncers roaming around my gym, way bigger than they need to be. In a country where the criminals all have guns, you don’t need big muscles. You need to be fast and alert, and work more on your brain’s situational awareness than “Me big muscle man smash all, hurrr”. For your health, and even success in your job, maybe reconsider. The pain barrier exists for a reason, to protect your dumb ass when you go too far.

Entered this line of business 2 years ago.

My training is more Agility/Speed/Endurance orientated rather than tons of bulky muscle

I am the Proprietor of the Company.

We used to get my bil's script for his chronic meds here and send it to him in the UAE. The 1st few times he got the package without issue. Then the last time they flagged it because it is a 6 month supply. They only allow 1 months meds. They imposed a penalty and gave the option to send the package back at a helluva cost or destroy it. They went with the latter. This was over R2000's medication.

He started going to a doctor there (R950 consultation) but they do not give repeat scripts there so in addition to the very overpriced cost of the medication, he has to pay that consultation monthly.

He has gone off his mental health medication, not good.

If I'm not mistaken, someone told me you can buy any meds in the UAE without prescription. You just have to buy i.e. spend money and not get on insurance/med aid.

However, many people who work there have medical insurance which covers all or requires a small co-payment.
