Press release: CIAG 2026 LGE Voting Guide

When voting; does the party/candidate represent your principles, or is it just the least bad option?

  • It's my least bad option

    Votes: 27 54.0%
  • It's enough of a representation of my morals

  • I don't see any 'lesser evil' element to voting options, so I'm not concerned about that

  • "None of the Above" if it existed - register my rejection of the 'lesser-evil' election status-quo

  • The party/candidate I vote for accurately represents my views

  • Total voters

Re: the DA's 50%, ANC's 18%, etc:

Raises hand...... would that be 50% of the 32%(the number of eligible voters who actually voted, last election)?

p.s. Brian_G, feel free to use your friend to help to clarify. Shouldn't be all that difficult.

Response;

Good point. Party percentages are calculated from valid votes cast, not from the entire eligible electorate. So if only 32% of eligible voters turned out, a party receiving 50% of the vote would represent roughly 16% of that electorate.

Of course, those who didn't vote can't automatically be counted as supporting or opposing anyone. It does put the headline percentages into a rather different perspective, though!

Note that the first map was a second attempt by AI, so may include some of what it discussed after the initial effort. I think I'll leave it there regarding detail.

I for one am not denying that, in fact it's been discussed quite a bit over the last few months.
All we're looking at here now is a concept of geographical patterns, nothing definitive.

Also discussed, and you were present in those discussions (but maybe didn't read them?)

To sumarise: point is, there's wide sentimental support, but not necessarily much willingness to convert that into practicality (yet?)

I did read them, but to summarise reality, there is fsckall actual support. Not a yet or a maybe or anything of the sort. The independence "movement" has had how many years to move the needle and have failed to do so?

Something like independence doesn't need sentimental support, it needs actual support and the various factions seem to be hellbent on avoiding any actual numbers depicting the appetite for their pipedream.

Just discussed that, TB, why are you circling?
This isn't about anything that could happen tomorrow. WC-ians would need a much stronger incentive for sure, however you look at it.

That said; trying to see if Lex's idea about focusing instead on specific WC location(s) has any angles of interest or merit, little more.

These groups have been around for 3-20 years. Wtaf is the point then if it's all still based in sentimental bs?

The sentiment is real 🤷‍♂️

Reason I'm still interested; there's no other hope for those of us stuck in this swamp, no matter how remote it is (so far) :-/

At least we're trying something....

You guys;

It doesn't have any merit or interest, less than 1% of people give 2 fscks, and if lexy is the spokesperson the chances are that "support" will fall to a flatline 0%.

The real world shows signs of being ready to pounce if there's ever a bad enough emergency. Guess what - the ANC guarantees that's coming 🤷‍♂️

If it takes 5, 7 or 20 years, the human being will only take so much and the WC will end up free.

/waits for the avalanche of fearful comebacks :)

Perhaps when the ANC takes over or when Mandela dies.

HIstory and reality do not really concur with your assumptions. Humans will tolerate a complete fscking shyte show before they generally unite and stand up against something.

And by shyteshow, I mean a complete and utter human rights etc clusterfsck of epic proportions.

Don't forget, it's likely to be far easier here to stand up - the armed forces etc. aren't exactly a match for such reactions.

Anyway, all speculation for now, and still always an interesting topic...

Huh?

You seriously think some random citizens are going to stand up to our armed forces if they go all "dictator" level brutal? You live in fscking complete lala land Brian.

Our armed forces may be broken, but they're still more than capable of completely and brutally suppressing our population.

@lexity , if you're going to continue down the political referendum road, at least show how you think it could result in a different outcome to the RP election flop, and how it could be funded given that most in WC are unlikely to be able to get online.

Firstly, this concern was posted by the bot;

I'm posting it anyway (#2 map) , will be potentially interesting for a more speculation-based chat at least.

Some ChatGPT commentary will follow...
Shouldn't you be asking for indications of support for a referendum on CI?

You asked for support for CI. That's preempting the referendum a bit.
