Anyone use these?
Are they worth it and add value to your cooking, or do they make your food look like something that came out of a post-mortem?

Much prefer it to my slow cooker and it is just so damn easy to use it (I have an electric, not a stove top one).

To me it is worth it because I live alone and the speed is a major plus. Also it is easier/less dishes to prepare stuff with it than say on a stove. If you are happy with your slow cooker though it might be a waste of money :/

I don't have either. Are they better suited to stews or can you do a decent (i.e. not soggy) roast in them too?

You should be able to do roasts especially in the slow cooker (ie. Raise the chicken you are roasting from the floor of the pot with balks of tinfoil)

Should be able to do that in pressure cooker as well. It comes down to not adding too much water imo and not the device

Oxtail , stews and soups are the best from a pressure cooker 45 minutes will tame any meat.
Just put what will fall apart in to the pressure cooker after you cook the meat .

Pressure cookers are awesome. We have 4 at home (different sizes - 5LT is the common one used at home, 10LT only when having guests) and lentils & rice is cooked in no time. Perfect for boiling root veggies and certain stews. If switching from Microwave to Pressure cooker, be aware of cooking times - if you keep same timing, things will be extremely mushy. :)

You can't go wrong with a pressure cooker, it turns any meat into a tasty, moist and tender meal in just minutes.

Pressure cookers are the ****. By far my most used non-standard kitchen appliance.

I use mine to make stews mostly - I make at least 2 stews a week. Stick some goulash or potjie meat in there and it comes out fantastically soft and juicy.

I also have a slow cooker, but hardly use it as I find that the pressure cooker is more effective, consistent and well.. quick.

Bwhaha! I remember the first time I used mine - hid behind the fridge when it started making funny noises :D

Used mine this week. Great for soups where it doesn't matter if it goes a bit soft. Grains and pulses work well. Just don't overfill it.

Best electrical appliance ever. My experience!

-Saves energy
-Easy to use
-Cooks fast
-Taste of food are excellent and IMHO better tasting and with more natural flavour that normal cooking methods
-Many uses
-Easy cleaning

We hardly ever use the stove. We bought two electric steam cookers and four inside pots.

I have an ancient one. I use it to make soups, stews and cat soup. Good to make beans as well.

pressure cookers seem to be great, can anyone point me in the right direction in terms of purchasing 1? electric preferably, decent sized,

cheers

I've got two ! Used on an induction stove, it becomes an extremely economical method of cooking. Oxtail in about 45 mins as opposed to between three and four hours on regular stovetop or oven. And, using an induction cooker, it consumes about 400W of power after reaching pressure.
