Coy said the drivers of light vehicles and motorbikes would now pay R19 at Diamond Hill plaza, R31 at Middelburg plaza, R46 at Machado plaza and R34 at Nkomazi plaza. Motorists will also pay R6 at the Donkerhoek West on-and off-ramps, R7.50 at the Cullinan West ramps, R14 at the Valtaki East ramps and R11 at the Ekandustria East ramps.

Heavy vehicle drivers will pay R79 at the Diamond Hill plaza, R124 at Middelburg, R262 at Machado and R145 at Nkomazi. They will pay R24 at the Donkerhoek West ramps, R31 at the Cullinan West ramps, R66 at Valtaki East ramps, and R46 at the Ekandustria East ramps.

Isn't it maybe a good idea to halve or scrap toll fees for motorbikes?
 
Where will this all end? In a few years it'll cost more in toll fees than fuel to travell from Dbn to Jhb. (Mind you, who wants to make that trip anyway?) :D

I believe it's per TRIP through each toll gate. So going from Pta to Nelspruit and back you can easily pay R200+ [round trip] just tollgating....that's almost a full tank of petrol.

It already does. My car uses less petrol in rand value than the total for the tolls down to Durban.
 
Your tax money working for you, erm, or not.
 
i can drive from PTA to Cape Town without paying any toll money, but from PTA to Nelspruit its 4 bloody toll gates...sheesh

Do you know how many normal 1300kg cars are required to cause the same amount of damage to the road that ONE loaded 18 wheeler does? 9600. Yes, NINE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED CARS!

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a bike causes virtually ZERO road damage in comparison. I saw somewhere on google that doubling the weight of a vehicle causes 4x the amount of road wear. So suppose your bike (including rider) weighs 300kg (I'm guessing here; I'm not much into bikes) and that taxi carrying 16 passengers with luggage weighs about 2700kg (@75kg per passenger + 1500kg for the vehicle). That means that the taxi is about 9X heavier than your bike which causes 36X the amount of damage that you do! Yet you pay the same toll. That's fair, don't ya think? :mad:

This was debated a few years ago and the goverment's view was that a Bike cause the same damage to a road than a car. :sick:
 
Our new guavamint?.. They know very little...

It actually irritates me.. Jhb to CPT very few if any toll roads.

Jhb to durban, i pay the same in tolls as I do in petrol... *screams*

Close enough. My bike with full fluids/tank and me on it in full gear weighs around 240, but I'm light and I ride a sportsbike. Average guy on a BMW R1200GS would be around 300.
