Hi all,

Has anyone had problems on this tower since last night? Left my computer running after finally getting it working only to discover that the modem disconnected at about 21:30 last night. So, I dialled again, connected and can do no surfing, no NS lookups, sometimes no pings (don't know how many times I disconnected and reconnected).

Now for an entertaining side news and request. Over the course of yesterday afternoon I moved my computer from its normal spot to a completely different spot. Reconnected everything like it was and the modem dialler could not open the modem port (nor could MySignal), BUT it would still dial out with the Windows connection and connect (and surf without a problem![?]).

When last night's problem reared its ugly head, I uninstalled and reinstalled the thing again from scratch. This time IPWireless software found the modem but keeps complaining about the URL in the registry was not found or incorrect. So, following on from a post somewhere here in the forum (thank goodness) and went into the registry and changed those settings so I could at least connect. So, I connect with a nice IP address (66.whatever), but still can't surf.

Help? Please? I have done a bit of searching in the forums but I don't even know what to search for anymore. BTW, this is an older Win2k (clean install) P2 system.

Positive suggestions would be really, really welcome! I really feel like a [:o)] at the moment!

Thanks!

Are you sure the dialler isn't using the new_user default account? Using that account will connect you to a private network where you can only ping a few sentech hosts used during the registration process...

To check look at the settings in the "ISP" tab of the dialler.

I had the problem initially that I couldn't use the dialler at all since it kept complaining about the registration URL being invalid from the registry. I changed the settings in the registry to have my login details (not the new_user defaults) as well as not to require registration. So the dialler connects, assigns a non-private IP address, but can't ping to anything. I can't even ping www.sentech.co.za OR the nameservers at the moment. I was wondering if it wasn't my Win2K setup. I am going to try the modem on another computer tonight that was working and if it works there, then I think I need to maybe do a clean reinstall (again - fourth time in less than a week!).

I am using 602LanSuite as my proxy and NAT software since the moment I use Win2K ICS, I suddenly can't get near the machine from the office. And I need to get to my home email [:D].

I can't think that the software could be the problem, but I have disabled it as well as virtually everything else and still no joy. Got to love Windows! [:p]

Cheerio!

Just got off the phone with a NoWire representative. They just tried doing a demo at a client connecting to the same tower and couldn't get it right either. Lovely. Anyone else connected to that tower without a problem?

Who knows? Maybe I won't have to do a reinstall [:D]

Thanks!

If that's the Menlo tower, I just came back from a signal test/demo at my house (12:30). No problem whatsoever...4 bars, 20% signal, no attenna [:D] Maybe being 500m from the tower helped a bit. Thanks to Deon for the prompt service

Yup, the Menlo tower. Hmm, maybe everything is working again. But how come only 20% power? I get 28% in Lynnwood Glen and, depending on where I put the modem in the study, up to 32% [:D]. And I am almost sure that I am further than 500m away. Hmm ....

Maybe the signal went over my head and bounced back from those embassies in Waterkloof [:D]. We slapped the modem on top of the
PC (Study on the "wrong" side of the house) and had a go. Lots of trees between me and the tower though. Could be a clear(er) line to you guys on the eastern side of the N1. Are you in the dip by St. Albans/Glenwood or higher up against that hill ?

Between St Albans and the N1. If it wasn't for the trees I would be able to see the tower from my (second floor) study [:D]. I wonder, I have the antenna from the MegaWan type days. Now if I can just get the right connector for the modem ...

Interesting enough, plugged the modem into my other Win2K machine and the connection is perfectly up and running! Grrr! Time for a reinstall I think [:(]

Tower 22 has been down most of the day. This is said to fix alot of PTA problems since Sunday regarding Tower 66 and alot of the PTA network with connecting and "reload". If people are still after todays tower downs having hassle phone the tech support and give them the tower you connect to and your problem so that they can solve the problem ASAP......

If the problems keep happening and they say the towers are online try the following quick 123

1 Reset the modem on with the button, OFF and then ON then try connect;

2 if that doesnt work -- Reboot the system and while booting OFF and then ON again and try connecting;

3 if that doesnt work -(THE technical explanation, DO NOT TRY UNLESS AT LAST RESORT)- Open the back flap of the modem there you will find a sim holder and 2 little silver connectors which is the RESET switch, jump them with a screwdriver which will reset the modem, then try and connect after, AFTER a reboot...

IF all else fails call tech support and lodge a ticket.

I got disconnected at 20:40 last night. Was able to see Sunnyside for a minute. Then reconnected without a hitch.

Strange, I'm on tower 22 (Pta) and it hasn't been down (been connected over 7 days now without a disconnect!) - is it possible that only some of the sectors on a tower were down?

Dont know there has been repairs on it and couldnt connect to it if you were down, suppose if you were online already you wouldnt be dropped.
