We have a PRI with Telkom which doesn't seem to come back up after load shedding. The admin display on the pbx system throws up a 'trk non-existent'. Not knowing all that much technically about ISDN, can someone explain to me why this happens and if there is anything I can do on my side to rectify it?

Will I need to keep my PBX, or my ntu, or both on a UPS?

Thanks in advance

With Telkom PABX's (Diana and such) using PRI's the PRI flash version was critical. It attempts to re-cycle sync faster. Some private PABX's have not updated their software versions and dont sync fast enough.

Another problem could be the Exchange programming.

Is the NTU in sync but the PABX side off-line? or are both off? Somtimes a PABX and NTU reset can resolve the problem (30-40secs off). I had, at a stage, the NNOC (National Network Operations Centre) number, and a 2 min call to them quoting the number on the NTU resolved the problem.

Primary importance is the PABX/PRI/NTU software. MAKE SURE ITS UP TO DATE WITH A TELKOM SPECIALIST. PRI customers are supposed to be to priority with Telkom and the NNOC usually are quick to help.

On Telkom EWSD (Siemens) exchanges, if the line has been down for a while it goes into "maintenance block" and has to be "reloaded" by the exchange staff. Usually just a command that is executed, Used to remember how to do it- it's been too long now.

I think have PRI with Telkom my line will run better.thanks.
