Price cuts and speed upgrades from Openserve

Existing 20Mbps services will be upgraded to 50Mbps whilst remaining at the 20Mbps price.

I really hope Octotel adjusts their prices so they remain competitive. Interesting move from Openserve!

I'm on Afrihost PureDSL 4meg and got bumped up to 5meg last week. It's nice , I'm enjoying it till Openserve fibre goes live. @AfriNatic , will there be price cuts on PureDSL due to these changes?

Ditto on Vumatel, but highly unlikely. Vumatel is more focused on bottom line than value. They have a solid network, but they're more monopolistic than Telkom ever was. Just surprised that so few people actually see it.
 
I was kind of expecting this. My fibre speed has not reverted to the normal speed, since the double-speed promotion was implemented at the beginning of the lockdown.

PureDSL is definitely one of our top sellers. We are reviewing the changes made by Openserve and will announce any changes.

Right now all 4Mbps ADSL clients have been upgraded to the new 5Mbps. Upload speeds have been increased to a minimum of 1Mbps on all the DSL packages as Openserve has made these adjustments already. These will entirely depend on what each line is capable of achieving.

Pity that they canned fixed lines in my area. Those speeds at those prices look quite attractive.

Vox head of fibre and data, Mary Ogilvy told MyBroadband that the costs outlined by Openserve only refer to line rental and not IPC charges, and the changes implemented by the company mean ISPs will be paying more, not less.

“The Openserve change will cost ISPs more money rather than less (our IPC consumption will go up) and I will be surprised if ISP’s drop their pricing,” Ogilvy said.

Usual Vox spin. Openserve restructured their IPC model so ISPs would pay less as a result of the CC inquiry. They still haven't passed on those savings. Then just because someone's speed doubles doesn't mean their overall usage doubles.
