I have a data contract on a wifi modem for R79/mth for 1gb. To get 1gb added to my cellphone contract every month will cost me R130 per month??? Nobody at vodacom can explain why this is... The sales people and call centre agents don't know their products...
Why is there such a huge price difference? The

I also experienced this today! I was actually gonna post this question myself. Wonder if anyone will know why?

The pricing on the data 24 month contracts are lower as you are locked in for 24 months. The add on bundles you can remove again as you wish.

If you find that you need t add data every month, why dont you ask the shop of Vodacom customer care to rather move you up to the 2gig data contract. There should be no charge, just he slighty higher subscription per month.

Vodacom categorizes DATA into two types namely.
  1. Broadband Data = Data on contract SIM.
  2. Mobile Internet/Smartphone Data= Once Off/Month to Month Re-occurring Bundles
Mobile Internet/Smartphone Data can be loaded on any Voice SIM etc.
eg. Have one Open Ended Voice Contract coupled to Multi-Data Slave SIM in a Router/Modem adding "Mobile Internet" Bundle of your required size. Managing of your Data now is made simpler etc.
NB: Multi-Data SIM's are NOT available on Prepaid/Top Up service.
The Shops/Franchises do not like this as it is bad to their profit bottom lines hence the Multi-Data SIM rules.
There is NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "BROADBAND versus MOBILE INTERNET, it is just part of the "Smoke and Mirrors" business of Vodacom.
BROADBAND=Lower pricing per GB
SMARTPHONE DATA=Higher pricing per GB - Max 5GB Bundles.
Check out www.vodacom.co.za "Broadband" and "Smartphone data"
