The latest (Sep 29) issue of iWeek reports on page 4 that MTN says it has cut the price of data services in SA to a flat rate of 90 cents/MB. Checking on callquest, I still seem to be paying R1.50/MB out-of-bundle (with 100MB bundle) as of yesterday.

Looking on the MTN website, I see a splash about MMS costs dropping to 90 cents/MMS, but nothing about data tariffs. Did iWeek get this wrong, or is there (going to be) a tariff drop...which would alleviate a lot of my worries about waiting for new data bundle sizes--although I was still hoping for a 250MB bundle for R200, which is R0.80/MB. From what I read on this forum, 250MB seems to be a distinct "sweet spot" and corresponds to one of the Vodacom bundles, no?

After that, I just need EDGE in our town...

Just curious people. MTN states on their website: "You will be charged 90 cents per message sent from your cellphone, to any network, regardless of how big or small your message is."

Does this include international networks?

I think the MTN press release mislead reporters, it talked about data services and then mentioned only a price decease on MMS

An sms sent overseas will cost R1.60 across the board all contracts and PAYG. Dont bother sending an MMS because you cant send one to anywhere significant!
