So I am travelling to Cape Town for Christmas and New Year and Tweede Nuwe Jaar :D

We planned to stop and overnight in Beaufort West. It's a lovely town with loads of friendly people ... or so it seems at face value.

Spur seems to be the main supper time hangout, but I can assure you this one has great food and the staff (managers, serving staff, etc) were all friendly and a couple even went out of their way to check all was well at my table.

My 9 month old wretched again (3rd time today ) at the table (maybe he doesn't like travelling? ;)). Good thing though for the 3rd time he missed our food :D

Enough of that though.

Here's the thing ... after supps (ribs and buffalo wings ... Yum!) I took a drive through town to look for the best diesel price. So I am a wee bit Scottish and I like to make sure I get the best price :o

Drove into the first fuel station and asked their price on diesel. (Diesel, as you know is not fixed and is determined by the station/fuel company).

Their price was R 7.83 - that's about 50 cents a litre more than I filled up in Joburg yesterday.

It turns out that all fuel stations has set, or should I say fixed, their diesel price at R 7.83 a litre ... all 7 or 8 of the stations (BP, Caltex, Total, Engen, etc.). All of them! :wtf:

Coincidence? Or is it price fixing and collusion? Swines! And they thought they'd get away with it? Not!

No, it is not.

How does the diesel arrive at the fuel station? By magic?

Obviously there are costs associated with the transportation of diesel to Beaufort West. Costs also in the running of the station. Etc.

However, all 6, 7 or 8 of them set the price ... and all at R 7.83?

Don't get me wrong. I saw the lighter side of this scenario, it's just that I was absolutely gob-smacked that its the same across so many companies? Wow!

Does anyone know where I could lodge a "complaint" on this? Just would love to see what they say about this. But perhaps it's going to be a case of no real rules regarding the regulation of diesel prices at the pump  Who knows?
