This is what i am figuring...
Line Rental + Phone Line Rental + ISP = Total cost for ADSL per month (you can obviously get MORE bandwidth, but lets not get too techinical)

so for 192 line it is:
270 + 349 + 87 = 706
704 / 30GB = R23.53 per GB

for 384:
359 + 349 + 87 = 795
793 / 30GB = R26.50 per GB

for 512:
477 + 349 + 87 = 913
911 / 30GB = R30.43 per GB

How do we compare, according to THIS, to other countries?

If the local cap gets dropped then i dont have a problem with it, but this is severely limiting. Oh, and the fact that the cap counts both up AND downloads. Do other countries do this?

AFAIK, other countries count ALL traffic, yes.

In terms of cost, we're still terrible, but improving at a reasonable rate.

It remains to be seen if the rate of improvement keeps at this pace, or whether our much despised 800kg gorilla puts the brakes on and starts beating its chest.

My brother in the UK has a 1024kbps line and as from 1st Aug he'll be capped at 30gig
He pays 19.99 pounds

19.99 pounds * 12 = R239.88
239.88 / 30GB = R8.00 per GB

As you can see, we're far behind the UK, who themselves complain that they are behind the likes of the US and Asia
