Hi All

I have read on the forums about the prices increases on memory , and monitors , Just to let you know that no one is trying to make a fast buck , all prices are on the increase at the moment , Ram, hard drives, monitors , vga cards etc , as we now entering high season and USA, Europe take first preference from manufacturers as that is where most of the product is sold during November, and December period and also shipping lines and air freight cargo prices have gone up 15% since last week ,

FYI ram prices is to go up again by 25% next week , so desktop and mobile and flash drives including SD, CF MicroSD are going up again
As an example
we were selling Kingston 2,0GB DDR800 last week at R 299.00 our new cost for stock coming this week is about R 369.00 and will go up again next week
last month we were selling Kingston 4gb Flash drives @ R59.00 and now selling between R89-R99 from next week should touch the R 120 mark

Today I had to authorise a R 5000 increase in air freight charge for our Sparkle vga cards to come in early otherwise we would have to wait another two weeks as the shipping lines are jam packed so we paying premium price at the moment.

Hard drives especially 1TB are going into stock constraint at the moment and prices will start to rise from next week so expect 1TB to be R 799-859 by December

HP, Canon printers are already on constraint and have already gone up by as much as 20% since last month .

Due to the popularity of Notebooks you will also see a slight increase in Notebook prices from November

The best time to have bought at bargain prices was in July , August and September .

Interesting that the prices would rise so dramatically in such a short period of time.
 
hmmm so i guess i am lucky 2 have bought my 1TB drives last week at the happy sale in cpt , btw when you giving us more of those nice pricing , i need to build my g/f a new pc for Christmas.:)

NICE!! I have been promised my 2x 2Gb DDR2 667Mhz notebook RAM since the 12th October from your Durban store. They took my number on that Monday and told me I would get a call as soon as it got delivered from Joburg... which they said should take a day. I popped in again on Wednesday to be told it had still not arrived... I even posted this message on your one specials thread....

I have still not received a call.... now I am hearing you say RAM prices are going up!!

I hope you still honour the price I was quoted on the 12th? I could have popped into Matrix warehouse across the river at the time but your price was a little better and I preferred using you guys due to your presence on this forum.
 
I'm going to assume that after the happy season the prices will be coming down again. Stupid festive season.

Guys, I am not a dealer and have spent about R2500 in total with Esquire and yet I have been given nothing but great service. I can just imagine the service you get if you are a big spending dealer!

Same here, although I now have my account and am starting to use it.
I have spent about 10k on mybb though.
Would rather have my own account as I get the benefits then.
Nice that Mahomed explains whats going on in the market.

Maybe esquire could explain why if they bring in memory at x amount it would go up?

Surely the stock is paid for, how does that all work actually. I mean say you bring in 250 sticks memory (use any for example), now why would the price of that stock rise?

Sahara got 1tb for 555 i will watch that price and see if rises by december.
 
As far as I am aware Esquire was receiving new stock on Wednesday or Thursday this week, so obviously that newly arrived stock would be at the new price.

They had no stock of 2Gb DDR2 RAM when I went in last week to buy some. This week it arrived but the price had gone up. Esquire (Mahomed) was kind enough to honour the old price for me. As stated excellent service and customer relations!

Hi Killadood

Please note that Memory, Hard drives , processors and vga cards are brought in by air shipments on weekly basis , not only with Esquire , but most of the other disti's well , also what needs to be known is that we all work on a forecast system and are allocated stock accordingly.

so when those run out or running out we need to place more orders at the current ruling price from the vendors that is why you will also find one distributor prices is better then the next and the following week vice versa

but at this moment as I mention in the post that we are now in High season ,
i.e. USA, and Europe are starting to purchase for Autumn (Fall ) and winter months and they get first preference from Vendors and suppliers as the volumes are almost 10 x that of SA , and the law of supply and demand takes effect.

sometimes Disti’s take a chance and order more then they should and in this case use that to their advantage but on the same token it could have easily gone the other way round and they get burnt ,

in this low margin game we "play" a quick stock turn is key and you should never have STOCK on the racks for more then one week otherwise you losing money ,

you will notice thing like cases, motherboards, keyboard mice , media etc pricing wont change as those are brought in huge quantities and by sea freight and
it is only with what we classify as fast moving items will you see price changes

What about price protection?
Surely, by working on a forecast manner, a price is negotiated?

I know retailers work on this manner, and surely Distributors do aswell?

For example, in the past, a distributor would argue the price increases are due to currency rates etc. that was when the Rand was weak and so, as a paying customer, one could expect to multiply the US$ cost by 10.

Now with a currency rate more to our favour, a different reason is given?

Surely the exchange rate changes mean that purchases the distributors make would, to a large extent, cancel out the increases? That is, if the current margins stay the same?


Explaining why prices go up does'nt make a consumer want to buy anymore than the promise of discounts after the festive season is over, does..
 
The volatile exchange rate really only ever serves to allow local distributors to increase prices at every opportunity and when the Rand strengthens-they'd rather hold their prices high as long as posssible rather than drop them, and then they blame other people like Europeans, the season, the shippers, the manufacturers. We've seen it all too many times before since 2001.
