How much is the Xbox wireless adapter thing and HD DVD? :/

I can't google cause everything is blocked at work ...

Locally they're about R900, you can find them online for about R600, or alternatively you can get a 3rd party "Wireless ethernet Bridge" for around R400. I know Linksys make one.

Well the reason for the post was everyone - including myself - was moaning at the price initially asking how on earth could Sony charge 40% more than Xbox for something similar!

Then I realised you couldn't really compare as the Xbox lacked quite a few functions of the PS3 and one needed to bring them in line to compare. After the additions to the Xbox, it comes similar priced to the PS3 for the same spec? I'm no expert on either, but the PS3 offers HDMI (trickling through now), HD movie player, *simple* motion sensitive controls, larger HDD and wireless as standard? Surely if one took the Xbox Pro and added all the above, it'd be the same price or more expensive? Hence the reason I'm asking accessory price ;)

Maybe Sonys mistake was offering a single model : perhaps they should have offered a cut down version as well. I dunno ... just a thought which has possibly been discussed many times before ;)

Yes you are correct but not everyone needs or want all the above features. So do you want to pay allot for something that has features you don’t need or pay less and add the things you do need. Plus loads of games...

I'm not arguing ;) I said they should bring out a cut price version ...

I'm just pointing out the price - although high - isn't out of line with Xbox :P

You've got a point on games ...

@Dolby, this is a very old argument.

The normal response from the Xbox side is that why should they be forced to pay for Sony's attempt at a new format? If they took the Blu-Ray out the machine would be so much more affordable but having it shoved down your throat is not cool.

Not to mention the motion sensing ability sucks and lacks rumble which is priceless ;)

Lol don’t worry I won’t start a fan boy war with you, just stated the obvious.

Wonder is MC will come out with a gun, will be cool to play Time Crisis at home

hehe ...

Probably an old argument as well, but it seems the issue is actually the marketing. Possibly based on the sales and performance of PS 1 and 2? They were both leaders, right? So I'm sure arrogance has alot to do with it ...

Nail meet head ;)

The idea behind the 360 is to give the user the options they want, but it does come at a bit of a premium as is always the case with peripherals. The only bit I'm sorry they didn't include/ is too expensive is the wireless bridge, although I've just found an SMC that's going for around R500, so it's not too bad.

Personally I like the microsoft plan of IPTV + downloads rather than optical media I've got a fair number of DVD's and the whole 'collector' thing has lost it's lustre. just give me quick access to lots of Barney! ;)
