I have an HP 8500A printer but don't have the duplexer attachment that goes at the back of the printer.

Currently the paper just slides straight through the printer out the back without printing; is it all all possible to print without this attachment.

I got quoted over R1000 for a replacement duplexer...

Does it use the 950, 951 cartridges. I see hpshop.co.za has the 8600 for R2500

If I don't want to spend r1000 on a duplexer then I sure as hell am not gonna spend r2500 on a new printer.

:D Just checking. The irony is that those extra cartridges is about the value of a new printer.

Have you tried another HP printer duplexer from a 6500a. I recall HP tend to standardize parts.

Btw. What happened to the duplexer?

Have no idea. Someone lost it (not me). I am trying to find out if there is some sort of back panel that can be put there in place. If I am quick enough I can direct the paper round but then it prints skew

You should be able to push back the buttons where the duplexer clips in (be resourceful) and make the printer think that there is a duplexer attached. IIRC all the duplexer does is allows you to print on both sides of a page at a time.

A duplexer unit is more than just the tray: it flips the paper for printing on the reverse.

The only way of achieving the same result is to print the odd-numbered pages first. After the ink has dried sort the pages (so that the reverse of page #1 is on top etc.), then put the pages back into the paper-feed tray and print the even-numbered pages.

Forgot about that. You don't need a duplexer. All you need is the component that closes up the back.

Yeah but I can't find one for the 8500a. Don't think they make one.

I literally have an 8500A with some lightning damage in front of me.
