Printer capable of printing on CD/DVD's

Anyone had any experience with these?

Mind sharing the make/model/price?

Any pro's or con's to doing the labeling this way?
 
I presume you are referring to the ones that can print on printable CDs/DVDs?

If so, I have have Canon IP4500 that does the trick very nicely.
This is a year old model, the one that replaced it is the IP4600 which goes for +/-R1000.
The IP4700 has just been released and goes for +/-R1150.

What are your experiences on these types of printers?

Also aren't canon cartridges quite expensive?
 
Got canon 4200.

Best printer.

ink= 5 tank.
I refill my ink, works out very cheap. R600 for 4 refills.
Only buys ink from someone who sells ink for your printer model.

Some times you cannot see the difference between original cd and printed one.

If this printer goes, go to shop and buy another canon 5 tank cd print printer.

Use to have other make off printers, but because wife print so much, ink dealer told me to go canon.

Epson also have a cd print printer, but canon is more popular and backup is good.

So, my advice, go canon 5 tank printer.
 
I have the IP5200 (same as IP4xxxx). Good advice from Robertvv.

My experience: If you need colour and do more than 5 discs a month, then get the cannon. Even works under Linux.

If you don't care about colour, then just go lightscribe. After 2 yrs I've printed 10 discs as I found a magic marker works the same and is faster (can take 5 minutes to print one disc never mind the time to do the layout).
 
I have the Canon ip4600 and I print around 3000 DVDs (Verbatim) a year. I use generic cartridges (R40 unchipped - R90 Chipped)

It print nicely bar one little irritation I have with it. After fiddling with the settings to get it to print to its maximum diameter, it still leaves about 0.2 - 0.5mm unprinted on the outer edge. This seems to be a problem with the bundled Canon software it comes with.

I used to have an Epson R300....it printed ok but not great and did print the whole disk.

I think if I had a choice now I would look for the High quality Epson variant of the disk printer. They are available and apparently do print a complete disk.

Hi Leftfoot

Try a small .dat file called Verbatim119. It would solve print from the centre hub till outer limit of disk

and it prints every where on the cd.

chipped cartridges?

Like all the people , the new canon is "intelligent".

After you refill a cartridge, canon know it and there goes your guarantee.
The original canon cartridge see when ink is done and tell you, but when you refill, it does not.
I check mine every month.[ ink levels],,,, because on the canon, when it runs dry, gone with the wind....

So chipped means intelligent and in this case aftermarket.

the refill is still cheaper.
 
I just bought the canon pixma MP630.The quality is amazing when printing on discs and it is quite fast as well.Only problem with this model is that it takes a while before it starts scanning or normal printing but the image quality is excellent.

one word of caution.

i have 3 printers at home on a wireless print server (Dlink)

i bought the IP4600 to print on CDs. Its fast, its got awesome color reproduction, its quiet etc. etc.

But... it does NOT like wireless print servers :) It is now permanently connected to my desktop. A bit of a pain of note for me, but alas its making up for it by being so good.

I just want to dispel an urban myth about refills voiding your warranty (its not a guarantee BTW).

THEY DONT!!!

You can find this info on all manufacturers websites (in fine print and usually hidden). Its illegal in every country they distribute their products not to honour the warranty.

All that can happen is a generic might leak and damage the heads. This is anyway a component that is not covered by your warranty from the beginning.

I also confirmed this with my local printer supplier and he confirmed it. (I use to be in IT retail and know how warranty claims work).

Interesting. I took an Epson for repair once. and it had lots of ink on the rollers. Guy asked me if I had been using re-fills or pirate ink? I said no why, so he says cause the ink caused the rollers not to function properly, and if it is from re-fill we have to walk away and cannot touch the machine.

it wasnt, they replaced the rollers and it worked fine. Interesting point u make though. I must read the T & C's for my printers...

You won't be disappointed, my cousin used his for about a year, never had a problem printing on cd's or paper. Very good printer for a good price.

BTW, not sure about the issue about it not printing completely to the edge, using the Nero app it printed to the edge....
