printer install

If it's a well-known brand, plug it in, connect the USB and it should work. The drivers on the disk may give you some enhancements, so stick that in your DVD.

Open box, check for printer cable. If not - go buy printer cable.

Arrive home, setup printer.

Do not plug in Printer yet.

Check for install media and place into DVD Rom drive

Wait for installer to start, if not launch manually from My Computer -> DVD Rom Drive -> Autorun

Agree to license agreements, select "Express / Quick / Normal" install

During installation, program will ask for Printer connection. Plug in Printer and Switch on.

Wait for installer to finish

Click test print (most likely an option at the end of the installer).

Find out that you didn't put paper into printer.

Get paper

Place paper in Printer

Press retry button

Wait

I know this is reviving an old topic, but hey, why not?

I have a laptop with administrator rights. When at home I use this to login, but when at work I use an alternate login, one that connects to the domain, etc, etc. The problem I have is that I cannot install a local printer (on USB) as I am told I don't have permission, although I do have administrator rights. What's up? I need to reboot to the admin account, install it from there, and then boot back. Real schlep :(

Boot in with the administrator account.

rclick on computer and choose manage, click arrow next to users and groups, open Groups, then the administrators group and add your work account

My name is on the list, but I tried by adding 'everyone' to the list and that works fine. Not too sure about the affect on security tho.
