I have a cannon IP1000 and suddenly it just not wok. I checked the cables and everything is plugged in correctly and the power is on. Do u think there is damage there from the power cuts we have been having recently?

Quite possible, Power surges are known to damage equipment, I would reinstall the drivers and if that does not work then have it checked out by a service technician
