Say goodbye to Eskom as you know it

Former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter said the private sector will replace Eskom and take over electricity generation in South Africa.

De Ruyter made this prediction during his keynote address at the PSG Financial Services Annual Conference on 8 May 2024.

Hopefully eskom won't get a monopoly on the transmission grid, otherwise, I can picture a future where we have all these private power generation capacity, but because the transmission grid is old, under capacity etc, thus the country still sits with load shedding for few hours per day.

That will also fall apart as grids become more local.

This sounds a bit like "please pump my shares" to be honest. The simple reality is that like it or not, the baseline power that coal and nuclear provides is absolutely necessary, and "renewable energy" will only ever be logistically and economically viable as a supplement.

I'm really starting to get a bit bored with all these energy experts, especially this Andre oke.... did he forget his brain at eskom?

I've already said goodbye to BusinessTech, but I'm stuck with most of the rest
