Hey All

Need some advice/assistance.

I want to share my wifi with my neigbour, but dont want them to see my pcs on the local network. I have been playing with a few options and cant get it right.

Hardware i have spare lying around:
Trendnet TEW-652BRP
Asus WL-520G Running DD-WRT 2.4 SP2 build 14896

I basically want to run a cable from by router Billion 400g to a device (preferbly one of the ones i have spare), set it up as a access point and secure the wifi. But the clients should be on a seperate ip range and not have access to any of the local machines. Also if i can limit the download as i have a 4mb line and would give them max 1mb down and 256kb up.

I know the Billion 400G does not do VLAN which would make this easier. Also i understand the basics of networking but not enough to get this working properly.

Open to suggestion.

Get yourself a Mikrotik 750 setup 1 port to your ADSL connection 1 port to your switch and 1 port to the neighbour

Then configure the firewall on the Mikrotik to only allow the neighbour to access the internet port and deny access to your port

Thanks for the feedback, no other way to d othis with what i have?
Otherwise will look into this as the solution. Is it hard to work with mikrotik devices?

The access point would be the easiest way to separate the 2 networks but it wouldn't limit their speed. Some routers have a option to set a speed limit. Haha or just change the connection speed from 54mbps or what it is to 1mbps ;) haha
