PrnStatusMX driving me mad - pls help!

Running Windows XP Pro, recently re-installed.

It is giving a strange problem the last week or so. At random on startup it will keep saying 'searching for printers' even though they are connected and installed, and this freezes up everything else.

When I try and shut it down, it says PrnStatusMX is running, and I have to 'End Now'. If I then shutdown the PC it takes forever, saying 'Saving Your Settings'.

What can I do? What if I use the laptop when the printers aren't even connected? Is there a way to stop it from 'Searching for Printers' all the time?

Looks like its a process for an HP Color printer to monitor ink levels

start -> run -> msconfig

Go to startup,remove the infringing program from the list,click ok and reboot

Ok, not sure which is the infringing program. I have tried uncheck PrnStatusMX, but it then starts up in Diagnostic mode. If I set it back to normal, it automatically ticks PrnStatusMX, so I guess there is something else I need to check? Or uncheck?

I was hoping my instructions were succinct enough but it seems not

start -> run -> msconfig

Go to startup,remove the infringing program from the list,click ok and reboot

Check the general tab and be sure its on Selective startup

When PC has restarted you can just close the prompt that pops up

The part I didnt get was that once it restarted, it opened msconfig again. If I leave it on selective startup, exactly as it is when it startsup, it asks to reboot again.
