I downloaded the ver 6 for my BB Curve 9300 from MTN and after the download was complete, I installed it as per instructions. It went as far as the "finish" and then nothing.
I have BB Desktop Manager so opened it with the device tethered and clicked on "update" and "no internet connection" appeared.
MTN states that the Desktop icon "blackberry software updater" must be used. Where do I get this?

I can't even find the files that opened anywhere on my computer.
Any advice?

I thought 9300 came out with v6 already.

I downloaded the upgrade file for my 8520 then did the upgrade through the desktop software. Backed up apps, contacts, etc. Light years ahead of that stupid kies.

Next morning phone was ready. Didn't u upgrade this software the last time as well? When u use the app to upgrade it gives you the option to browse to the downloaded file. Did u do that?

Take it to MTN at the waterfront, they will update it for free. Takes about 15-30 minutes.

Where did you download the installer from? In some cases, OS versions are designed for specific carriers only and it will not be installed on a phone that is not branded by that carrier - that is until you delete the vendor.xml files. See this thread for a tool that will do it for you: http://forums.crackberry.com/hybrid-os-f224/vendelete-cmd-vendor-xml-file-remover-673344/

If you would rather do it manually, you will be able to find the files here: (but they also hide in other places!)
32-bit systems -
*systemdrive*\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
64-bit systems -
*systemdrive*\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
Win XP (32 and 64) -
*systemdrive*\Documents and Settings\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

I downloaded it from my SP. MTN. Today I upgraded my BB DTM to 7.0 and re downloaded the OS 6.0 and installed it to my laptop successfully. Plugged in my BB and the DTM opened and an update icon came up. I clicked on it and then it tried to download it again via internet but aborted due to no internet connection?? I was connected.

I eventually found the files and double clicked on the "loader" app file. Windows App Installer opened with BB logo and started installing. Took 40 minutes until the "finished" icon highlighted.
Clicked on it and Lo and Behold. It is still Ver 5 with T-Mobile.
Re downloaded ver. 6 from MTN and now cannot find it. BB DTM also cannot find it.
Geez. This is 700 mb later and no success. Sucks.

I think I got it. The phone is a T-MOBILE as it shows their logo when booting up.
There must be a conflict between MTN and T-MOBILE. Perhaps if Idelete all the XML files then the DTM will see it??
Will try tonight again.

No go. Looks like I'm having a discussion with myself here. Seems like I'll have to wipe the phone and get rid of T-MOBILE stuff on it then try by using BBSAK instead of DM. Think my DM is broke.

so its not originally a mtn phone? even if you wipe it, it may still have remnants of the original provider. although my upgraded software i just downloaded from the blackberry internaitonal website. worked like a charm. only 8520 mind you not your fancy one.

Is it worth bothering? Is there anything you can do on 6 you can't do on 5?

Dunno. Just like getting the latest stuff. Every update is an improvement on the previous one. That is why they update.
