The comments state that it was not the Apartheid flag being hosted, but the Vierkleur. Nothing is wrong with the vierkleur you fokkin oversensitive morons.

I remember having to colour in the flag just before the end of aparthied (like preschool...), one of the hardest things I had to colour in so far in my life at the time - those little flags and learning all the colours...

The old flag would be appropriate as the Hydro-Electric sheme was completed in 1959, when the old flag was the correct flag for SA back then.

So I have to deduce that Hughson is happy to have the current SA flag flown, even though it represents murder, mayhem, & gross government incompetence & widespread corruption?
 
I suppose I will get flamed for this....but I dont see anything wrong with the old South African flag. Yes ... it was the flag of our country during a bad time ... and yes ... I do suppose it needed to be changed to usher in a new beginning ... but if I am going to be truthful, I like the Oranje Blanje Blou more than the new one. The old flag represented history on it ... how the country came to be and where we came from ... from the Dutch to the British to the Afrikaner republics etc etc.

But other than that I feel rather neutral to both I suppse. If the old flag represents apartheid ... then what does our current flag represent? Crime .. corruption ... the nation being robbed blind? Banana republic?

On the other hand ... would I say the same about the Nazi Germany flag? I really dont know . Maybe I am a hypocryte with this? Maybe it is not the same thing?

Hahaha! I remember we had to draw the flag sometimes! And we had to learn how to compose a telegram on a telegram card... and now in 2013 the telegram officially is dead. I have never sent or received a telegram, they shouldn't have wasted education time on that STOP
 
I don't have an issue with this, as the flags are used for historical purposes. I take issue with idiots who try to fly these flags from their houses or at stadiums, but these flags belong in museums and history books.

I had to draw it in std 2 and used a book from the library. My teacher was impressed that I knew the old flag but I was wrong.

F***ing libraries and their outdated books.
 
In all honesty, and flame or not, I actually completely agree with flying the old flag in this situation.

It represents history, and hopefully for some people it will make them go and investigate history when they look at a flag and go "No that doesn't look right".. but if they go and research a bit they will see that their country has changed or something of that nature.

Haha that must have sucked.... The only hassel I had was figuring out which side had to be red and which blue...

So true, we are "taught" soo much of stuff that we might not/never use/need....
 
It was the old regime that contributed and helped them not the new one so leave the flag there.

I'm not complaining about it - its history, lets keep it in the past. Nice to see the old flag is still flying somewhere.
But lets change perspective a bit.
What if the project was a bit older and one of the flags was for Nazi Germany? :whistle:
