Hi,

I've got 9780 with BIS.
Already got my gmail running on the phone.

Trying to add a POP3 account.
Email: [email protected]
POP Server: pop.myisp.com (POP SERVER IS DIFFERENT TO MY EMAIL DOMAIN)

When I go to setup, add email account etc, all it asks for are my email address and password.
Then it says "your device had a problem connecting to the server".
I can't see how I'm supposed to specify the POP server...?
I've looked for other menus with the BB button, but there was nothing.

Any ideas?

BB does not support pop mail, only IMAP. you need an imap enabled mail server in order to access it.
You will see if you disable imap in your gmail your emails will stop coming through and within a few hours you will get an email saying that it can no longer access your email.

Ignore this. BIS supports POP and IMAP,only issue is Push Notification isnt possible with POP and IMAP servers that can't support it

Right....on to how to solve this issue, the easiest way is to log into the BIS control panel for your Network provider, then manually configure the account

Otherwise if you want I could take a look at maybe tricking the system with a DNS record change - dependant on your domain's config

Thanks for the help man.

I got it sorted out after a while.
They told me the BB isn't capable of creating an email account where the mail server is different to the email address's domain.
Had to go to
mobileemail.vodafonesa.co.za
But it wouldn't let me do it from my PC it said "can't use a HTML web browser". Tried from my phone's built in browser, same error.
I phoned them and they asked me to re-register my phone on the wireless network, battery pull etc.
Tried it but it didn't help.
Then I called again and they asked for my BB ID email and password. I said no ways.
Then they asked for my email password, and logged into the site (or whatever) and created the email account for me.
Then it worked, and I changed my email pass.
But I couldn't send email from the new account without another phone reboot.

The interesting thing is, afterwards, looking at the email account setup on the device. It allows u to change the mail server.
So next time I have a similar situation, I'll try just adding one of my secondary gmail accounts to my phone, then just editing all the stuff so it serves for whatever new email I want to add.

9/10 times it can autodiscover the correct server details using the MX record of the domain, your MX records being ISP based with a .com and the domain being a .co.za may have confused it somewhat

HOWEVER

You just reminded me of another solution I completely forgot of :)

Code:
Add Other Address

Email: [email protected]

Pass: test
Verification will fail and it gives an option to provide the settings manually

U mean email verification?
Nice trick :)
