Hi guys,

I am not 100% sure if this is the right place to post but I am happy for any feedback that you can give me.

Problem:
I am an Afrihost customer on an uncapped product. I am really happy overall with the value received and had no real issues with my line. However, what I do have an issue with is online gaming service via PSN or through MMOs. Whenever we are trying to connect to some of these games, I am receiving timeouts or massive lag spikes.

At first I though that this could be an issue with my router and ensured that the ports are open. When this did not work I tried out my line with 2 different ISPs and 2 different Afrihost accounts. The result is that there were no issues connecting to any gaming servers.

My question is: How can it be that two different accounts from the same ISP produce these different results and more importantly do any of you have an idea on how to solve this? I have been in touch with Afrihost and they said they are looking into it, but it doesnt sound like they have a clear idea of what the root cause is.

Feedback from them has also been that I might have been assigned a "faulty" IP address range that is being blocked. Fair enough, but how I have my IP address changed that is assigned. I tried rebooting the router multiple times.

Any help is appreciated.

sounds like you're being shaped at the moment hey. Phone them and ask them or check in in your client zone. Capped accounts and business uncapped don't get shaped.

Thats why I have a separate capped account with Afrihost. I have the 1GB free and I use that whenever I game. Doesn't use much bandwidth so it lasts a long time. Plus did I mention its free :P

They call it "managing the bandwidth". If it quacks like a duck ...
