I have a problem connecting both my wife's and my laptops to my wireless ADSL router.

There was a power outage and when the power was restored suddenly my wife cannot connect to the internet anymore. She can connect to the router though. I am getting the same kind of service as before, no problems.

Is this perhaps a problem with conflicting IP addresses, or the router resetting itself? I have tried searching for solutions but I not finding anything specific for this problem.

Suggestions?

If she can connect to the router then it can't be conflicting IP's.

Are you using static IP's or DHCP?

I doubt it's DHCP, if 1 works fine and another doesn't, my guess would be the wife's laptop has a static IP address and the router MIGHT have reset to default settings (most likely indicating a power surge, not just an outage)

Also, the question hasn't been asked: Is one connected via CAT5 and the other wireless? Both machines wireless? Both machines via cable? Because if it was a power surge, the lan plugs could be faulty or the wireless unit might be off.

So many things can be wrong hey.

I'm sure your time (and our own) would be better off if you got someone in to have a look for you. Well worth the money spent at the end of the day because we need to play Cluedo/20 questions here

Thanks for the suggestions. The attitude is a little bit high and mighty though.

Hello there,
If you connect the PC to the router with a cable does the internet work? If yes then it may be a problem I often have that the PC connects to the router wirelessly but is not allowed access to the Internet. To resolve it I reserve an address for the laptop in the router and tie it to the mac address of the wireless adapter. This sounds strange but on my netgear I used to connect fine on the tp-LInk I need to tie an IP address to the WiFi adapter.

If no joy then I suggest taking the laptop and router to a friendly store such as Matrix where they are often able to check it out and assist.

Regards

Tim
