thing is, only 2 games are played on that PC the sims 2 and wow, so to purchase a new graphics card hmm,,,, okay when u said due to overheating do u mean the card is fried? or it gets too hot?

Story time: We bought this pc back in the day when it kicked ass, IT's a Dell Optiplex GX280 and it's a little desktop thing, we all thought awesom, takes up no space, next day we went to buy a Graphics card, bought a awesom 1 (at the time) took it home opened it up but the case wouldnt close, so 1 of my dad's friends built a metal case around it, to stop it from getting damaged (glogs in my head ticking) could this be the reason for overheating?

Roll a horde, this will solve the problem. I have been getting problems too with my 7900GTX. I been getting screen tears etc. Just today I caved in a bought a 9600gt and 600w psu. :)

That is the problem right there

rofl, the case actually has a fully open front and back, and air vents on the side,,, so i made it sound a little worse than it is, but if i take it out = problem solved?

Maybe rather use that casing to mount another fan right on top of the card

okay, but the card still works it just overheats? it's not totally broken?

ok maybe this is not realted but I'll ask anyway.

I see you mention 1.5GB's memory. How old is that motherboard ? I think your frying the motherboard as it can't handle that amount of memory. This only depends on what type of MB it is and how old it is :o

it has like 6 slots for RAM, but i think it's the card, it's a few years old, but not old old. it came out around the same time that PCI express cards where still REALLY expensive

thankx so much for ur help, im off to go take it out the case, cheers

Ive seen similar stuff like that on AoC
Ppl said it was memory leaks
