Hello.

My name is Peter. I live in Poland wher isn’t branch office of Vodafone.
I'm not very well speak English, but I think we come to an understanding.

I have problem with my data card - Novatel Wireless UMTS Modem (production Vodafone).

After unsuccessful upgrade firmware (v.12 > v.14.2) my Merlin U630 don't see the networks.

I can't do another upgrade firmware becouse The Upgrade Utillity after checking modem and reseting it, says: "Firmware upgrade fails”, “Backup Needs FACTORY ID or IMEI".

Look on pictures:

The firmware I downloaded from site:
http://www.vodacom.co.za/packages/3g/datacards_novatel.jsp

I tried did again upgrade firmware to v.14.2, but the error is the same "Firmware upgrade fails”, “Backup Needs FACTORY ID or IMEI".

Generally my modem is efficient. Now on firmware v.12 everythig works fine ,but card don't see the networks When i do "serch network" dashbord is crashing.

Is some program on Internet, which I will erase the memory of my modem and upgrade firmware again?

I wrote to Vodafone, but they response me, I would come to Vodashop or Wodaworld and they will repair this. This is unfeasible because I live in Polsce, where isn’t service Vodafone.

How I say, I live in Poland, but not in city, only in the village. And I can't work without solid connection (3G) to Internet. Now to connection with Internet I use old telephone modem, and one hour in Net cost me 1,5$. Horror!

Please. Help me, because I don't know, what to do with this problem  .

Maybe someone with you, works in Vodafon? It would be possible, I will send to you my modem and you will go to Vodafone service with it? Is it realizable?
I will defray all of costs of mail and costs of correc upgrade firmware, but I have to know, how much it will cost.

Thank you.
Regards, Peter.

Peter, sounds like your Data Card broke during the upgrade process.

How long did the upgrade software run and did it finish completely or did you stop it during the upgrade procedure?

Where did you buy the card?

It might be possible to send us the card but I'm not sure if can be repaired under South African warranty.

Yor software

Have you uninstalled your vodafone software and reinstalled it selecting your network in your country as the provider it may still be searching for Vodacom if it was installed in
South Africa remember you should be on the network you select
