I have this problem: I am using Windows 7 64-bit and for some reason the DVD-Drive does not recognize CDs/DVDs etc anymore ("please insert disk" - although a disk is present) after I used the PC for a while. I don't know where the problem lies. I installed every Windows 7 update, Windows said my drivers are all updated... I don't know if software can create this problem or what else.
For some odd reason the drive works without a hitch after a restart.

I have a TSSTcorp TS-L663c CD/DVD-Drive on a Packard Bell EasyNote LM Laptop.

Hope this is enough information.
Thanks

If you look in the device manager, are all the CD/DVD drivers installed properly? In other words, no angry little yellow exclamation marks next to them?

When did the problem start?
Check which apps you installed round about that time.
Might be one of them is causing the problem.

It could be that dust collected on the lens of the DVD drive and now it can't read any media any more.

I'd go with checking the drivers, cleaning the lens (google for a how-to), and then trying a different drive.

I have had endless problems with my Samsung drives, eventually replaced them for good with LG drives.
