Built a PC for someone in December but it has an annoying problem. The computer will either freeze in windows, or during POST. The IDE light stays solid. The only way to fix it is to unplug the SATA cable and re connect it, then it works fine for a month or so. How do I know if it's the MB or the HDD giving trouble? Could it be the SATA cable? Thanks!

IDE light?

Have you done a scandisk? Could be a bad sector on the hdd. Could also be a driver problem.

Can't be a driver problem if it hangs during post.
Can you hear the HDD spin up?
Tried the HDD in another machine?
Tried a different SATA port?
Hit it with a hammer?

:D

Is it still under warranty? If it is, and the drive is borked, just tap it lightly against the wall so the heads come loose and get a replacement.
