I'm experiencing a problem using my macbook and samsung D500 as a modem via GPRS. I set the phone up but when I try to connect bluetooth, it says its connecting... then disconnecting... and then a window pops up:

"Internet Connect
Could not negotiate a connection with the remote PPP server. Please verify your settings and try again"

These are the settings I'm using:

Telephone number: *99#
Account name:
Password:

Vendor: Samsung
Model: GPRS (GSM/3G)
APN: myMTN (I tried "Internet" as well)
CID: 1

If anyone could help I'd appreciate it since my Telkom ADSL modem has no Mac drivers, so I have no connection on that machine.

Regards,
Josh

Are you able to browse the web on your phone?

I had trouble getting a friend's Samsung D900 set up for data. The settings received via *123# didn't work, it was only after calling 1555 and them sending the settings manually, could we browse on the phone. Once that was working, it worked as a modem as well.

BTW, the other APN is 'internet' not 'Internet'.

If your Telkom ADSL modem has an Ethernet port you should be able to configure it to behave like a router, i.e. it stores your ADSL account username and password and establishes the connection to your ISP, it assigns IP addresses to your local computers via DHCP, and then your local computers require no configuration except for setting them to acquire their IP addreses automatically.

The GPRS on the phone works fine... I'd be lost without facebook mobile lol :P. I tried changing the APN from "Internet" to "internet" but it didn't make any difference. When its trying to connect the little bluetooth icon on the phone flashes red and I know its trying to connect because I can hear the cell phone interference in my hifi's speakers...

Its a crappy Telkom Marconi ADSL USB Pots, so the only connection it has is USB. I plug it into my macbook and it can't even see that new hardware has been added - the lights don't come on or anything. I tried checking the net for drivers but I couldn't find anything.

Thanks for your help though ginggs... Any other ideas?

This is a long shot, but you could try changing telephone number to *99***1# or *99***2#, etc. where the number following the three asterisks corresponds to the stored connection settings in your phone.

For example, if MTN-WAP is the second stored connection setting in your phone, the telephone number will be *99***2#.

I tried that and no difference unfortunately :/ Its strange cause the GPRS does connect because the the square G symbol flashes briefly on the phone and then the laptop disconnects. I had the same phone working as modem with my old acer laptop but it just can't seem to get it to work with the macbook... My colleague said that I might need modem script, I tried a generic one but that didn't work and I can't seem to find one for the D500? If anyone has any ideas I'd really really appreciate it

i'm having the same problems - but tried it on a PC too... i suspect it has somethign to do with area and when it switches between 3G and HSDPA

it's VERY annoying!!

Okay so tried it with a D600 and exactly the same problems. But I managed to find a modem script for the D600 but that didn't seem to make any difference at all. Can anyone help me, this is really annoying!!!

Hi Josh,

If the connection with your D500 is fine, why looking at your connection details at your phone?

Does your Mac has access to your phone by bluetooth?
Did you (carefully) checked the System Preferences (bluetooth, Network and Security)?

Maybe also Google on bluetooth and "OS X"?
