Hi all,

I've recently been having problems with my connection, ever since a big storm, where my house got struck, it killed our TV's ports & our DVD player..

Since then or before ( i can't remember) I've been experiencing connection issues, where the net would drop for 1 minute, and then come back and last several minutes (5-10 minutes), then trip again for a minute or so.. It's been getting bloody annoying, especially now, trying to update steam, but as soon as it gets to 30-40% the net cuts out and i have to restart the download.. I'm getting sick and tired..

My provider is Telkom, and i'm using a Siemens Giga762SX modem (white one). I was thinking it might be a problem with the router, I noticed the VOIP led coming on whenever the net tripped, so i opened my routers control panel and disabled voip. But the problem persists.

If anyone has any idea whether I should take the modem in, or report a fault at the line, please help me and let me know! :)

Thanks,
Jaime

You say that the TV and DVD are also dead....have you checked your POTS Filters? They are most likely also blown.

If they are you can buy some POTS filters at the Telkom Direct Shop, and have you been able to try a different router?

Do you have a dialtone on that line? Is there any noticable noise.. like crackling sounds? Pick up the phone, press a number so it goes silent, and listen.... Especially as the DSL drops.
If there's no dialtone, then your DSL is syncing over one wire out of the copper pair which means your attennuation would be much higher than it should be, explaining the losses in sync. Try unplug everything from the line except the DSL modem (so NO FILTERS) and see if that helps - if it does, then it could be a faulty device or filter

I can confirm that there is no Crackling noise on the telephone line, my dad's on the phone now, he says there's nothing wrong. I will try unplugging everything later, when my dad isn't on the phone.

Well, It seems that it has been fixed. Not completely verified, but the net has been running for a while now with no cutouts. It turns out it was a problem with the Telkom box down my road. It was clicking houses on and off... so yeah... I phoned customer support multiple times, and they were friendly enough.. went into the shop, they were super friendly and helpful.

Having the exact same prob in hatfield :/ telkom also been there a few times.....sending them out again. Damn lightning.

Post line stats for these problems. (attenuation, SNR etc.)

I had a similar problem, i unplugged all of the pots things and phones and sure enough it works perfectly. Going to replace the pots in the morning
