Earlier on the account was capped, so I logged into the router as normal and changed the account to a fresh one. And with that the connection ended. The modem shows all lights green but there is no internet, and I can't even log into the router, and pinging it just keeps timing out.
Was on the phone for a while with telkom who had me switching it on and off to no avail. Spoke to someone I know in IT now and without much hesitation he said it's time for a new router.

So I turn to the collective wisdom of mybb and ask, is the modem fried?? Only got it in Jan...

Have you tried a hard reset? Usually holding in the reset button in for 10 seconds or more sometimes...for some modems holding reset and then powering up.

This will require that you update all your settings, so make sure you have that handy

Had the same issue with a D-Link Modem not too long ago. Hard reset as mentioned by saliehendricks did the trick. If all your lights are on though, are you sure that the second account isn't capped as well ? Might save you a reset.

Get a paperclip
Look @ the back of the Router
There is a little hole (much like you find on CD/DVD roms) - On newer versions it will say Restore Factory Settings on the sticker @ the bottom
Hold in for (mmm hell I cant remember how long) lets say 30 sec
Router will be back on its default settings (DHCP with 192.168.0.1 IP I think, default pass) etc.

If that does not work, something (like surge, lighting etc) screwed you. Get a new modem.

ok first I realized I made a typo in the title- it's a DG834. Anyway, I tried to reset but that didn't help. Anyone know how to do a hard reset (SnowWar - I don't see any reset hole on the back)? The manual says to use the interface (which I can't access) and notes that holding down the two buttons for a reset will not reset to factory default.
I've also noted the box says it has a two year warrantee - will telkom replace it?

The reset button is close to the antenna (older model - to the left of the antenna), when viewing the modem from the rear, grey button, in one of the holes in the perforated tin casing, it is rather difficult to spot.

However, if your modem has two black buttons (newer model) on the right side panel (when viewing from the front), depress both and hold for 10 seconds, all lights should go out and start flickering, once booted (and all lights are stable) remove the power source and only insert after 30 seconds.

Reinsert power socket, wait till booted and try accessing www.routerlogin.net - should it still fail return it to the supplier, as it normally has a one year guarantee.

Should Telkom be the supplier, you are required to return it with a reference number obtained from the support call (0800 375 375) to a Telkom Direct Store - https://secure1.telkom.co.za/app/customerservicebranches/shops/shops.jsp
