Problem with No-ip and Kguard

I have ddns with No-ip and I have setup all the necessary network devices and my DVR.
Using the Kguard app on my Samsung phone I am able to view my CCTV cameras when I am away from home. It works perfectly.

However there is a problem when the phone is connected to the home network. Kguard shows that the DVR is not available.
If I switch off Wifi on the phone and connect via mobile data (as if I was away from home) then everything works fine.
Connected to the home network I am able to ping my ddns address successfully, so there is no connection or firewall problem.

Any suggestions anyone?

It's called local loopback, and not all routers handle it well, though you can check your router settings
Option B is to add a dvr entry on the app using the internal address and alternate as needed

Depending on what router you have you can add a static DNS entry for your ddns to locally resolve to the IP address of your CCTV system. This will allow you to use the same profile in the app for viewing locally and remotely.

I know that B does actually work, but since I then have two entries for the same DVR half of the feeds are blank, depending on which entry is operational. This is also not as "plug and play" as I would like for my wife to use.

And again, it is the principle of the thing. I should be able to get this to work properly. Thanks for the feedback though

That sounds like a reasonable idea. I'll give it a go. Thanks

Non-workarounds:

Local-loopback enabled on WAN connection
Host-override DNS entry per Sarel

Both of which require some router capability, not all of them can do it Out-of-the-box

Easiest would be to create a second profile with the local IP address and use that profile when connected to the WiFi network.

The post above, in our experience is the simplest way to potentially fix your problem although, it also depends on how old the system is. I’ve come across some old analogue systems that would not allow remote viewing via cellular app.

I use two profiles on my Kgaurd works fine for me. The static DNS entry will work as well but I already have a static entry going to my home PBX

Most dvr’s have a qr code to scan and simply matching up the ip’s work without issue. The only issue I’ve experienced in all of the jobs that we done is with connectivity via PC once the router is restarted and ip changes. A static ip is definitely needed for PC viewing.
