I have just added a wireless router to my iBurst Desktop modem. And since then I cannot send mail using the iburst smtp server (smtp.wbs.co.za or smtp.iburst.co.za)

I can send when I am directly plugged into the Desktop Modem. But when I add the wireless router I cannot send through this server. I have to send through my GMail address server.

Is there something I need to add to my router settings, to allow it to send through this server. Is it getting blocked somewhere. My internet and incoming mail server all work fine.

What is your router model and firmware?

I have a D-Link-320. It is on version 1.0 firmware. I see that their is an update 10 1.1. Should I try this and see if it resolves it?

Very strange GMail smtp works, but not my other smtp servers over the router

Here's another strange thing. O have setup the router to mail me log reports everyday, and the smtp server set there is smtp.wbs.co.za. And I get those mails. SO it can send messages from the router using that smtp server, but not from my desktop and laptop. But if I bypass the router, and connect directly to the router, then my desktop and laptop can send through the iburst smtp server.

This is a better firmware http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database Type in d-link and the 320

What happens when you do a do a telnet smtp.iburst.co.za 25 ? What is the reported IP address?

This is what I get when I telnet smtp.iburst.co.za. The same when I try smtp.wbs.co.za

trying 196.2.97.233....
telnet: connect to address 196.2.97.233: Connection refused
telnet: unable to connect to remote server

Do these IP's look right?

Gmail uses 587.

This is what I get when I telnet GMail:

trying 289.85.227.189....
Connected to gmail-smtp-msa.l.google.com
Escape character is '^' -
228 mx.google.com ESMTP p4sm2399Sver.29

works ok 4 me

Microsoft Telnet> open smtp.iburst.co.za 110
Connecting To smtp.iburst.co.za...
+OK Welcome. DIANA is ready to serve.

+OK Logging out

Connection to host lost.

Press any key to continue...

What DNS servers is your router using? Have you set them manually, or does it get them from the network?
What are the DNS settings on one of your PCs that works?

Yup, so could there be something on your router is blocking port 25?

I would suspect the FW on your router. Double check the rules.

Thanks. I noticed I had some weird dns servers on my desktop. I removed them and now it seems to be working fine.
