Problem with TCP/IP connection to wifi router

Hi there ...
I've received my Neotel router 3 days ago, but now I've got the following problem:
I've got a HP notebook that I want to connect to it.
On the notebook, I've got Windows XP SP2, as well as Ubuntu Linux.
When I use Linux, I can connect to the router with wifi & ethernet, without any problem ...I get a DHCP IP, and woalla!... connection done and I'm on my way ...
NOW ...the problem starts when I try and use XP ...
When I connect to it with ethernet, then everything works fine ...I get a DHCP IP address asigned, and whoap! ...internet works ...
When I try to use wifi, it's a whole different ballgame ... I connect to the wifi connection without a problem ...authentication is done, but then it looks like I have difficulty getting a DHCP IP assinged to the interface ...
I've tried using static IP's ...again ...WIFI gets connected, authentication is done, and it actually tells me "I'm connected ...
When I do ipconfig, I can see the interface has got the right IP ....but from there I can't do anything ...I can't ping the wifi router at all ...

Does anyone have any idea what might cause this????
Like I said ....on Linux it works fine, so it must be something todo with XP SP2 maybe?? ...Oh ...to through an extra spanner in the wheel ...tried my wife's notebook with Vista ....same thing ...connects, but can't get IP address assigned ...
 
ok, what i would advise is to try again with the static ip's. So set your ip (just make sure its in the range of the router), then subnet, then set your default gateway as well as your 1st dns server to the ip adress of your router.

If this does not solve it then its most likely the routers firewall that is blocking. Normally routers allow DHCP traffic, but there are some that dont, so maybe see if you can enable it. Anti-spoofing policy rules my also be blocking your DHCP traffic. See if you disable it.

DHCP traffic??, DHCP assigns your device an ip address what traffic are you speaking of??

Some troubleshooting might be in order, Log on to the router and check the authentication, if its set to WPA then change it to change it to WPA2..also disable your firewall if you have one and see if thats not the cause..
