Hi all.

I recently formatted and upgraded to vista last night and installed SP1 and all my drivers. my problem is that i have a Zyxel(IADP2601) router and i cant connect to it. Vista says im connected to an "Unidentified Network". what could be the problem? i went through all the standard windows help and support suggestions but still no cigar. i have also tried disabling my firewall and disabling IPv6 as well. i am 100% certain that it isnt a hardware issue, because yesterday it was working fine (on windows XP mind you)

anyone had this problem? how did u fix it? ive tried google and it looks like many people have had this problem but ive yet to find a solution

Thanks Kindly in advance

Very odd that you cannot connect to a LAN router.
How exactly does it connect?
also, from cmd line, do a ipconfig and paste here.

Vista and networking:mad: I want to pull my hair out. It is odd why it won't connect. Unless the router is faulting and not dishing out a proper IP to the PC?

believe me i tried the my cousins ps3 and lan,it really is not a easy task. You on vista to so even more brain power is needed. What i can suggest is go to the ps3 local forum,There you will search and you wil get a nice link to your problem to fix.

i find vista's networking better than xp

once u learn about how it works, its basically flawless

So how do you do that, exactly?

well lets say u load up ubuntu for the first time, you might say o this is crap

once u learn ubuntu it might be amazing

unless you think ppl should just know about all the different settings in vista

again why are you in this thread? you hate windows yet u keep commenting in windows threads?

can like to think your a troll :p

I also find Vistas networking to be very good.

I actually find it faster than XP.

Never had problems with Networking

:)

Using Vista Ultimate x64 SP1.

+1

Actually Vista networking is outstanding.

The only issue I've ever had was similar to CM159 -- couldn't see the the wifi AP. Uninstalling Silverlight fixed the problem. There's lots of discussion on MSFT user forums about this. When I last checked a few weeks back a fix was imminent, but right now all my Vista Ultimate systems are Silverlightless.

That's quite interesting to have read. Makes me wonder about the DHCP service in these soho routers. With limited space, the service can't offer all the options that a pc based DHCP server can.

Using Microsoft Windows Server DHCP, I can dish out so many variable settings. The DHCP setting on our adsl router can only really offer the most basics.

Strange problem, but then again Vista was programmed to take advantage of newer technologies that may not always be (widely) available outside the USA.

I learnt something new for the day :)
